1.
I found this article to be helpful: http://tinyurl.com/ydtrejv
Not mentioned in the article is image stablization, which needs to be used correctly if shooting freehand. I shoot the Zuiko ED 50-200mm f2.8 - 3.5 on an E-3 body, so I can't get out as far as you can, which means the birds have to be closer, but I think the closer the better when you squeeze the trigger. My skills are no where near those of Laura Pipkin, but she shows what can be done with proper lighting, conditions and technique.

  4.
My thoughts mirror yours exactly, and I shoot birds on IS1 as well but with Zuiko ED 50-200mm. With my shorter lens, I have to be very close to the birds to get a sharp image, especially small birds such as the painted bunting, maybe no more than 20 feet.

  5. I am considering the purchase of an E-3 but was wondering whether my existing accessories for my E-1 would be

compatible, namely, 1) the Olympus-Digital SHLD-2 Battery Holder Set, and 2) the Olympus FL-20 Flash

    f/c-730/750/5050/E-10/E-20, and 3) the Lexar Compact Flash Type I 40X-USB 1GB.

Separately, I was wondering whether anyone has had experience with PhotoDynasty.com, who is advertising an E-3

for $879. I can scarcely believe the price.
