Dear Martyn,
I think it's better to take a good lens for Full Frame now and than choose another body (like 5D). I bought a 24-70 L with a 400D and now a 5D MkII, this lens is greater but quit heavy, alternatively I suggest you a 24-105 that is a bit practical and stabilized, also a L lens...

Thank you very much for your help. You are absolutely right. However, I noticed, in some circonstances, that setting the flash head like the focal length could be better...
Last two question:
Would it be better setting the flash head into a closed angle using a white umbrella?
Should it be better if the flash detected its position through the infrared and so adapted its head, if you want?
Regards.

To whom it may concern,
I have a problem when useing the ST-E2 trasmitter and 580 EX2.
The key point is that the zoom-capable flash head doesn't work, even if I am not useing the manual zoom on my 580 EX2. When zooming on the lens (24-70L), the flash doesn't change its parable, but remains on 24mm (with no "M 24mm" setted, but only "24mm", therefore "auto mode").
In my opinion the whole ETTL should work, including the auto zoom on the flash.
Is the problem on the trasmitter or on the flash? I've tried to change the body (5D MkII and 400D) without any changes.
I would be grateful if someone could help me!
Regards.

Certainly the 85 1.2 L !
I've got a 5D MkII and tried both of all, they are fabulous but in my opinion the 85 beats the 50...
The question is: what is the focal lenght you need?
