Taken just as the sun was going down. A cold day, -12 or 13 degrees

C. A thin mist lay over the water which added to the light effect here.

I used a 25 second exposure to ensure the trees in the background were appropriately exposed by the camp fire and I finished it off with a rear curtain flash so that the trees in the foreground were not just a silhouette. The flash also added a little contrast to the snow on the ground. You can just make out my wife and 7 year old son in the bottom left of the photo, and our tent is behind them.

Oh I'm not that brave! I have bought equipment that will (according to the makers) keep me warm in temperatures as low as -50 degrees C. So really I'm no braver than anyone else! I just love being outdoors! And the 6 winter months we have here in Norway are by far my favorite! They do indeed provide some fantastic opportunities.
