And also I used to shoot alot of bmx freestyle riding at night at the local skate park and you need more then 1/250 shutter/flash sync to freeze fast action tricks like Bar spins, tailwhips and so on

Bill I find that confusing - the duration of the flash burst is what will freeze the action not the shutter speed.

The interval timer needs to be set at 33 secs (31 and 32 don't seem to work).
The number of intervals is basically the number of pictures you want to take (240 in my case) x 1
Thanks for your help

Thanks - that is what I intend to do tonight and will report back!!

Thanks for the replies - not sure I am much the wiser really though as there seems to be so much confusion with the terminology.
Does the camera really need the 2-3 seconds of "thinking time" and writing time? My concern with getting beyond 1 sec is that I may start getting breaks in the trails. If I get a chance I will experiment tonight before I go and see how it works.
From what I have read the "Select Intervals" means number of intervals and the number of shots relates to how many images I want to take at each interval. I get the impression that this function is more geared towards time laspse photography over longer period and with a decent interval between shots.
Any definitive help would stll be much appreciated - thank you

Hi
I am hoping to get out and shoot some star trail photography in the desert here in Dubai. Because of the very high
temperatures and humidity I am probably limited to exposures of around 30 seconds maximum which means I need
to take multiple exposures and use a stacking programme to create the image. Can anyone confirm whether the
interval I need to set should be 1 second or 31 seconds? (Basically I need to keep the period between exposures to
the minimum to avoid any broken trails).
Assuming that I want to create an image from a 2 hour exposure do I set the intervals at 240 and the No. of shots as
1?
Any help or advice would be very gratefully received.
Thanks

Wayne - thank you.
I was looking at the flash compensation rather than the menu where I set it up as a commander.
All sorted and thank you all so much

Having checked the flash settings using the camera menu it appears that I only get 3 stops to play with - there doesn't appear to be the option to reduce the power to 1/64th or 1/128th.
Is that correct or am I missing something?

Thanks

Thank you for the reply - I expected it to be on-flash rather than the camera but that should make life easier!

Hi

This may be a stupid question but it's bugging me so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction!
I am using an SB800 flash and use it remotely with the pop up flash on my D200 acting as the trigger.
Is it possible to adjust the power of the flash as once it's in remote mode the only control that seems to work on the flash unit is the zoom function and I cannot access the mode to adjust the power?
If I use the on camera flash +/- button it seems to have some effect of power but the range is pretty limited and it doesn't give me the options I would get if I used the flash in manual mode.
What am I doing wrong? I guess I am missing something obvious!

Many thanks

Wow - thank you all for your responses - there's some really useful advice there.
The intention is to do it with two of us so that should hopefully make things a bit easier!
I will keep you posted of developments and will post some pictures as and when things develop.
Thanks again for taking the time to help out.

Hi

Myself and a friend have an opportunity to do some pet photography to help out a pet-sitting business.
I have no real experience of this kind of thing and would like advice on how to approach the sessions.
My equipment will be a D200 with a choice of 105mm, 10-20mm and 18-200mm lenses with one SB-800 flash gun.
Where do I start??
All help and advice appreciated

Thanks

500C question
in Medium Format
Posted

Hi

I will be picking up a Hasselblad 500C shortly which belonged to my father.
It is clearly labelled as a 500C but the serial number starts UV which I believe dates it to 1971 and the lens number is also from 1971.
Will that mean the screen is likely to be the CM type and easily removed or is it a 50/50 chance?

Thanks for any advise offered
