1.
Thanks for all the responses. I think I may go the Pentax route for sheer adaptability. It's my understanding though that the Pentax K-x doesn't work well with rechargeable batteries but I may have to see about that. Also, KEH looks interesting. I have loads of older film cameras (few Mamiyas, Canons, 1 Yashica) that I think might garner me enough cash to create the digital system of my dreams. Thanks!

  2.
So when I did my undergrad film photography was still all that was offered. Now I am thinking of pursuing my MFA and I don't have much cash to put toward a set-up. I need a durable camera (used is fine) that is good for multiple applications.

The Pentax K-x has caught my eye mainly because it appears to be extremely versatile and any lenses I buy should be a good fit for other Pentax cameras if I upgrade the body. The Nikon D90 is a bit out of my price range but if I had the cash I'd prefer that to any other camera. My main concern is versatility and durability. I don't want the camera to be completely obsolete in a few years.

Any suggestions?

  3.
I have a few old Canon and Pentax lenses and want to use them on a cheaper ($400-500) new/used digital SLR. Any suggestions for bodies that take the old lenses best? I don’t want to use an adapter and I'm fine with manual mode. I’ll mostly be doing daylight landscapes and cityscapes.

Alternatively, I can also swap lenses with my photographer friend’s. So if there are any quality adaptable digital SLR cameras out there I’d love to know about them. Thanks!

  4.
I am looking for a reliable online company to print quality full-color digital 8x10 photo prints (aka prints from digital files)... I have a few companies in mind based on suggestions here but are there any that accept paypal? I think I saw one a few months back but I can't remember it. Anyhow, thanks!

P.S. Not that I endorse Paypal. I simply have some extra $ in my account and it's easier/cheaper to use it for another purchase than to pay to receive my $.

  5.
I'm a committed amateur city-scape photographer who is looking for a good DSLR. I'd prefer a Nikon or a Canon. I've done all the research and read the reviews but it's all conflicting! Can anyone help? Here's what I'm looking for:

I want a steady workhorse in the $500-600 range (USA), used. That should include a decent 18-200mm name brand lens. I'm not looking to change the lens often. Thus, it needs to be good at adapting to different situations. I intend to take it outside often so it should be fairly weatherproof. I'm not too concerned with how much it weighs considering that the love of my photographic life was my Canon A1. It must have an autofocus option and be above 8 megapixel. I'm not a megapixel snob I simply want to be able to get crisp prints in fairly large sizes.

Any ideas?

  6. Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question but I was wondering if

anyone knew the best place to get a digital SLR in the 10mp range? I prefer

Canon only because I have a few nice Canon lenses already and wouldn't mind

working in full manual mode with them. Essentially, I'm looking for a nice

work-horse camera. Something sturdy. I don't mind a heavier camera considering

that the love of my photographic life is my Canon A1 (I miss the old metal

    bodies... because I'm a klutz).

Alternately, I wouldn't mind other suggestions for cameras that can fit Canon

lenses. But it'd have to stay firmly in the $400 range (500 with taxes). That

should include the body and preferably one standard lens. A bag, strap, and

memory card is always nice too.

I see that amazon is selling a Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera

    with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for a little under $600...

Am I asking for too much? Any suggestions otherwise in terms of make and model?
