I second that. I just got my 24-70 on a 400D (asia name for XTI) and it's great. I would like to have IS on it but canon doesn't sell one and when they do, I believe it'll be a USD500 premium!

Hi Mike, Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a go to see. (I didn't even know what is decentering if you didn't elaborate)

<p>I saw another thread asking the same question yesterday, but couldn't find it
again. (I had wanted to piggyback)
Anyway, just got the 24-70 f2.8 yesterday and since I'm bringing it back to
Asia,(this is USA warranty only), I figure I need to test it out properly.
I read about the battery test and the focustestchart but since I don't have a
tripod, I just "used my hands"
I don't think I have a front/back focus issue.

As far as I can tell, I think I have a good copy of this lens.

B+W eh.. well, a search on Amazon shows quite a lot of different ones. Which one should I be looking at anyway?
-
I just took a look at the prices, and I've got to say that they are definitely too expensive for my taste. The CPL alone is like 1/4 the price of the 24-70.
Seriously not cheap.

I've got a Hoya Pro1 UV (digital) filter but I don't really like it cos it seems like it's a dust magnet and it's pretty hard to clean properly. The stuff just sticks.
Doesn't your have that problem?

I'm (more) than a bit confused over the different choices of Polarising filters
which is available. So, this is a more or less a general post to ask which would
be a good but not too expensive polarising filter which I can get for my soon to
arrive 24-70 F2.8L lens. (77mm)
Thanks

I got mine from Asia (I'm from asia anyway) now in US for work. I got it for ~USD240.

Seems like this is a very popular lens. I can't seem to be able to find it in
amazon/B&H(which is cheap with the promo code @854)/adorama.
Anywhere else has it? I'm only here in the states for 1 month.
PS : Lenses have international warranty right?
-
depends on what you shoot then. the 2.8 is largely for weddings, (but I just got a flash, so I'll see how it holds up) the 17-55 2.8 is another one but at a max focal length of 55mm, it seems a tad short even on a cropped body.
-
seems like everyone doesn't have it on stock? Is it really _that_ hot an item?
-
with regard to the 24-70 2.8, Is it sharp wide open?
-
I just recently gotten the 580 EX II flash using the above coupon (receiving the item tomorrow! Can't hardly wait!)
It's between a 70-200L IS vs 24-70 2.8 debate for me as well. Only thing is, I doubt I'll be so dilligent to take the 70-200 1.4kg lens everywhere just to do some simple snapping. That's the headache but I do like the 2.8 for low light weddings etc.
-
Thanks Rob. I checked and there was seriously a long list of "bad experiences" and the rating is only 0.45/10
Glad I asked here first before getting it. (I'm here in the US for only 1 month thinking of getting a good deal and not getting fleeced)
Many Thanks...

Has anyone heard of expresscameras.com or even bought from it?
I stumbled onto this site from a sponsored link in Amazon when I was researching
on prices of this 70-200 lens.
Amazon is pricing it at ~USD1500+, but this site only selling it for USD1129
which is like way, way cheaper than normal.
I'm not sure if it's trustworthy.

I got this lens from Asia. I got it for USD257 equilvalent. But since then, some of my friends has gotten it for USD212 equilvalent.
The IS is nice, and when compared to the 70-300, the f number is the same anyway, so its comparable.
I would prefer something with a bigger f number though, for more available light indoors.
EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. A good walk around?

I have this lens. Bought in Asia for between USD150-200.
It's a cheap lens and for the price, the inclusion of IS is definitely great. 250mm is a bit soft but still has good reach.
AF hunts under low light and not very useful in dim conditions w/o a flash.
That's my take of it anyway.
