If you're worried about missing the wide angles, have you taken a look at the Sigma 17-70mm (2.8-4.5)?
I'm not sure what your price range is, but that's what I might replace my kit lens with.
Otherwise, there's Pentax's 17-70mm f4 that should be coming out later in the summer

wow, where can i get one of these?

Hey there,
Long-time lurker, 2nd time posting...
I'm actually renting this lens for two weeks because I'm in a similar situation. I'm going on vacation with it to Yosemite - what time is better for a good test? =P
Not too bad... 2 weeks for $50 w/shipping to & from.
And you can get a deduction should you decide to buy the lens from them.
I'll try to post some pics later if helps you.
But yeah, the Tamron is supposed to be the same exact lens but with a better warranty.

Hey, I agree w/some of the responses above that the K200D might be more appropriate for your wife. From a fellow brasileiro, the K10D can be quite a handful to carry around as the K100D and K200D are a bit smaller and lighters.
Otherwise, I'd say shop around for the K10D as you aren't missing terribly much to justify the $500 difference which could be used towards better lenses.
I got mine on amazon a few months back for around $630 or so and couldn't be happier.

link to where you got it?
$8 ain't bad for small compromises~

I'd somewhat interested in that 50-200mm lens. I just have the kit lens as of now w/my K10D.
Did you put it on ebay already?
