  1. I'm shopping for my first video camera, in about the $1000

dollars price range. I know this is a 3-chip camera, and that

attracts me. But I'm wondering about overall performance, esp in

lower light. Has anyone used it or seen a professional review of it

    anywhere?

  2. Greetings,<BR><BR>

I am a frequent poster over in the still-photography forums, but

lately I have been thinking of buying a cheap video camera to

experiment with. I do have a computer capable of handling video

editing, although I would need to get the software. <BR><BR>(Now I

know this kind of question gets asked <I> all the time</I> in the

still-photo forums and people are apt to audibly roll their eyes in

frustration. But I looked through the archives and I don't see a

current thread about this. So please don't flame me too much.)<BR><BR>

Anyway, since I don't know diddly about digital video, I figure I

will buy something cheap to learn a bit on. I was looking through the

UBid.com offerings in the sub-$500 range and saw examples ike

    these:<BR>

    JVC GRDVM70U <BR> and<BR>JVC GRDVP3U <BR>and<BR>Panasonic PVDV100

    Digital Palmcorder.<BR><BR>

Comments on cheap consumer-newbie cameras like these, or other

suggestions as to models or places to buy would be deeply appreciated.

  3. Well, quite a thread here...<BR>

I like the opt-in ratings suggestion, although I am sure people will type in numerical ratings in the comment box the way they do now, they just won't be averaged. And I like the "photos I like" link idea. <BR>

<BR>Otherwise, I'm not going to fuss too much about whatever happens. I got pissed off at one point by someone who had gone through my entire portfolio to 1/1 me, but I sent him an email, and he wrote me back after having removed the ratings. I won't say we had a meeting of the minds, because we didn't, but at least we communicated relatively reasonably about it. And there are still some 1/1s in my folders, but you know, who cares?<BR>

    <BR>

Although there is the little matter of my, ahem, <I>position</I> on the TRP list, and the matter of who is atop me - or below me, for that matter. Vuk remarks <BR><I>"Until a revenge ratings bomber got me, I enjoyed several days directly atop Amy Powers." </I><BR> Several days? Good lord...And Jeff replied <BR><I>Whereas I have until recently been directly atop Spud the travellin' tuber. I think you got the best of this deal.</I> <BR>Thank you, Jeff - I think - although I would say that atop a travelling tuber, one might get an ever-changing view of the world. I feel positively static by comparison.

  4. Greetings -

I am going to shoot an evening of gallery/performance art, and

while I will be shooting some 35mm, I'm also going to rent a MF

camera and shoot some 120 film, as well.

I'd like some advice about what camera to rent. My local pro

    camera store - Glazers - has a good selection. I want a SLR-style or

a rangefinder style, and something autofocus, because these people

will not holding still all the time, and something with a pretty

short learning curve, of course. A camera that does well in low light

would also be good, although I can do some lighting...

I want a lot, don't I? Well, I am not picky about the image size,

though I like 6x6. But any size will do.

I am thinking about a Pentax 67, but I'd like other input...
