  1. Ian:

Thanks for the comment. It's particularly gratifying to get some feedback from a photographer as accomplished as yourself.

This was a quick grab shot taken as I walked by (I've often seen, & heard, these guys practicing in the park). I was experimenting w/using the 21mm focal length (I'm usually more of a 50-100mm guy) & was perhaps a little too preoccupied w/keeping the camera level. I think you're right about the underexposure, a combination of clouds & moving leaves kept the light levels variable (a shot taken a few seconds later w/the same settings looks more properly exposed). Also, FWIW, it was my 1st experience using APX 400, & also for my lab (Nat'l Geographic); judging from the negatives & contact sheet, most of the roll has unusually high contrast & density. That said, I haven't had the chance to print this shot yet, & the vagaries of scanning (including the Mac v. Windows gamma gap) may make this upload look darker than it really is.

  2. Not really. That's the scan (& my tweaking of it). My photos tend to look too dark on Windows machines (I use a Mac), so I try to play to the masses. Maybe I went too far on these shots.
  3. Thanks John. The shots in this folder were taken @ a friend's flamenco party. The light came from some jury-rigged spotlights being used by a couple of guys who were videotaping the performers. Most of my other "available darkness" shots from that night were complete duds (time to start saving for a Noctilux!).
  4. Nice shot of a Metro escalator (something I walk on @ least 10 times a week--I hope you weren't 1 of those tourists who stands on the left & blocks the commuters!). Also, I think you did a good job w/the panoramic stitching software.
