Hi Everybody
I'm having trouble finding a Pro Lab in the UK which deals with B & W Reprints. I want to send off some 120 and
35mm negs and I live in the Cornwall area. I would prefer to stay in the area, but if I need to I will post them off
elsewhere. Can anyone help please? If you can then could you please post a web address?
Many thanks

Quote from Bill Caulfeild-Browne , Jun 02, 2008; 08:19 p.m.
"As for cost - yes, MF digital is a big capital outlay, but if you're shooting 10,000 images a year, you'll have paid more in film/development costs by the end of one or two years....
Bill"
Does it really???
The very minute a new digital camera comes off the factory line it is out of date as far and as fast as technology is concerned. To keep up with technology you will have to buy a brand new digital at least every 2 years not to mention scanner etc, laptop with software plus storage discs or other devices. Sorry but my MF blad is as constant as the day it was made 25 years ago. But I agree with others, When did MF go out of fashion???

You could try london camera exchange or robert white.co.uk

Have you tried e bay?

I agree with Jenny and Jeremy on this one.
The square is great to work with. I always work on the premise that what you see through the viewfinder is generally what you get. By this I mean that although the wedding party are the most important, you can always have a look at the surroundings too. The scenery can look great in the background of a square. Also, it gives you the option of offering 8 x 8 and 10 x 10 packages to your clients. What is important though is that you remember that it does take practise to know how your subjects will look if you do want to crop. Personally I like to have the extra bit of space to play with as opposed to 35 mm

I like the photo and I like the crop too. The sky is dramatic. To be honest I wouldn't have known it was a church until you said. On closer inspection, the only thing that gives it away is the arched windows I suppose

Hi Eric
Hope you shoot some film soon, you don't know what you are missing

Hi Simon
Your post is exactly what I was thinking about before I read it. People think it is great because it is modern. Look at digital televisions. I can switch mine over between analogue and digital and get both sides of the fence. More often than not, the people in digital look orange and the colour saturation is pretty bad and even flat on that. If you remember when microwaves were invented, people thought they were great until they tased the food. Let's be honest, it is great for reheating, but you can still bounce burgers off the roof.
Going back to digital with weddings esp. standards have dropped a mile and everybody wants 150 photos+. If you are lucky you might get a dozen good shots, but because everyone else is doing the same rubbish then there is little standards to measure it against anymore.
It will eventually become like the holiday slide films of "old" (sorry emphisis on "Holiday" not old) after 10 minutes of sitting through an album you will be taking a siesta.

Not a problem on the help. In fact most of it is to the credit of a lot of these guys on this site.
I'm from Newquay. Bit of a rough place and not somewhere I like to raise the kids. Keep an eye on e bay as there are usually loads of A12's on offer.
If I can help any more then please contact me on:

Sorry Mate live in cornwall
I don't know a lot about the newer backs except they do go for a lot when they sell. Find our which year it was made from the seller and then post it here. Someone may help. If you contact colourworld they will send you out a pricelist pack it has the 220 listed in it. I usually use Colab, but they don' do 220 and I will be switching my processing to Colourworld as it is about ?2.00 cheaper per 5x5 film.

When I read your post, I looked up e bay. If you type in Hasselblad in search you will come accross an A24 on the first page and is due up in about 14 hours. The starting bid is ?30 and no-one has yet bid. As I said, I have an A24 and will use it for 220 in time but I actually posted a thread like yours not too long ago and the opinion I came back with was it was not worth putting 120 into it. Too much hassle but it is up to you. The general concensis is that you get what you pay for. Both my A12 backs are mid 80's and both work great. I personally would not buy one any earlier than 82 but that's my own choice. If you get a back with matching case and insert then it is worth more, but only one of mine matches and the other doesn't but I've not had a problem with it.
I have been watching A12 backs for the last 4 months now on E bay UK and you will pick up a decent one for around ?60 sometimes less and on occasion up to about ?90.
From what I have seen, IN MY OPINION I would not pay ?140 for an A24.
Just curious, don't want your address, but which county are you in?
I will try and find the thread I started on this subject. In the end it started a war regarding how much spacing there was between frames when using 120 on a 220.
In the meantime have a look at colorworldimaging.co.uk

Hi Lewis
Don't know if you are in the uk or not from your post, but I am.
I got all of my hasselblad gear on e bay and the price will fluctuate on demand and quality. However, I paid around ?60 each for 2 A12 backs on seperate occasions. 1 Was in great condition and the other good condition. I also bought an A24 for ?20 - I was the only person to bid. If you are from the UK then there do not seem to be many Pro labs which develop 220 now. I can suggest at least 1 lab if you are from the uk if not then others here from the US will be able to help from the other side of the pond
-
Just curious, but who here photographs commercially now with film and what do you do with it?
-
Your right Jeff
That's exactly what I was doing when this bloke (taking photos) when this bloke went off at me regarding how out of date myself and every other film photographer is - just made me smile

Hi there
Had an electrician in today and in the course of conversation, my wife said
that some wedding photographs I had taken had arrived in the post. To this the
electrician asked me what I took them on and my reply was film of course. His
next comment to me was "Dinosaur".
He then began to tell me that his friend was a photographer who had all the
latest gadgets and gizmos for his digital career.
I really had to laugh at the thought of my "dinosaur" hasselblad that was built
25 years ago and would last until after I am dead being upstaged by his mates
DSLR which would be out of date as soon as it was off the production line.
Sorry just had to share

Hi guys i've been advised to run this question through this part of the forum
Been out of the darkroom for about 7 years now, but would like to stock up
again. I would like to purchase a pro enlarger, but don't know which one. What
I need is 6 x 6 neg carrier to print to 20 x 16 max. I used to use axomat and
opemus 6 enlargers but gave them away several years ago. Incidently I would
like to print off wedding photographs. So can anyone tell me what the absolute
best on the market is or what they might recommend?
Also, can anyone tell me anything about the de vere enlargers please
Big thanks
Alan

Thanks for the replies
Noah, do you know where they sell new blads V's from I had a look at UK suppliers and couldn't find out much? I'm not worried about digital as I won't be changing to that rubbish until the fires of hell freeze over first.
Thanks

Hello
Can anyone tell me if Blad still make the V system or is it all now H
If they do then where can you buy one?
Alan

Ok then
For still shots, how do you manage to get the feet together and ears forward (short of setting off a firework to get its attention)?

Hi Guys
Thanks for the responses, I will follow up the labs. The problem I have is that I don't have the room for the darkroom anymore to print myself, hopefully in the future which is why I need a good lab.
