I have a 540 on my k10 and was wondering how to make the flash go. For instance,

this morning I put my flash on and started taking pictures, but the flash

wouldn't flash unless it was pointing straight forward. I have found there are

instances when I need fill flash, but I can't figure out how to tell it to go.

Am I being clear as mud?

So here's a question: How do you get the dust off the sensor when you've blown and used the dust reduction function? I have a couple of spots that I have to edit out of every picture when its of something light. The camera shop said they could send it in, but it would take up to month to get it back. I don't have time for that right now. I also have a bunch of dust in my view finder, but its not a problem- just annoying.

My husband saw one of these at a pawn shop for $99, is it worth it? I had been

reading such great things about it. He said it looked clean. I have the k10 and

a film zx-30.

 

It almost doesn't matter since I don't have $99!

So, I have the 18-55 and the 75-300, would it be better to sell them and get the 18-300? I have an external flash.

I was going to suggest that they go to the local shutterbug rather than walmart or walgreens. The manager at the Shutterbug said that they make sure the pictures don't get cropped wrong.

 

Thanks for clearing things up for me in this area. I have been horrible at printing pictures since I went digital! I never lost heads with film!

Oh thank you. I shot in RAW on a K10. You see, I am giving my friends a cd of the pictures I have edited and they are going to order prints for themselves. So yes, I am concerned with the final product they receive. In some instance I am cropping to get a tighter shot or exclude something that's unseemly. In some of the pictures the bride has a particular look on her face that I want to get, but not what is around her. (Same composition as the photo I posted in the thread, 'problems with wedding photos.) These are the ones that I accidentally shot in 1600! Grrrr. What a dope!

 

So, would you suggest I make it clear what sizes they should print the photos in? I'm thinking of recommending that they print them at the local Shutterbug because they are more careful of what they do and how they do it, rather than just letting them do it at Wal~Mart. I guess this is a good reason to offer prints through me, eh?

I know I'm full of questions recently. I've been working on editing some

pictures to give to my first clients. I'm wondering about the cropping factor.

I'm using Photoshop elements 6 and/or iphoto 6. What are the dimensions to keep

when cropping. I have the options of choosing dpi and size (4x6, 5x7, etc.) I

want to be sure that heads won't get cropped off when they get them printed.

I know that this isn't exactly the right forum, but I've been looking around

photo.net and just get more confused. Besides that, you guys are the nicest

forum and put up with newbie questions so very well.

 

So, as a amateur photographer (trying to make my way in the world today giving

everything I've got- guess what song that's from) what kind of forms do I need

for clients/subjects of my photography. I say subjects because some of them are

not paying me. What kind of contract should I have. Can I post their pictures

online in a gallery? What about model release? What if I give them a cd of

pictures to develop can I say what they can use it for, i.e. personal, not able

to sell...Do you have any examples you can email me? I need this simplified. Do

I have copywrite to the picture even if they're given a cd and waiver to print?

How specific should the contract be?

 

Again, simplify this thing for me.

You guys are in for a real treat later on! I have 4 kids! but first, I have to get some school done with them before I continue to play on the computer. Although 2 of them are doing p.e. outside (running around the house and trying to hoola hoop) and the other 2 are working on their thinking skills (playing memory)...so, it is school.

Well, here's my amateur opinion. I love the first photo, but I'd like it better with the whiter background of the 2nd picture. If I were the client I would definitely put it on my wall, but I love fun pictures.

Yeah, I think next time I take pictures in a room with tons of overhead lighting I'll grow a foot so the lens won't be angle up so much...or maybe I'll make sure I only shoot people 5ft. tall. Fortunately my next wedding will be outdoors...

And yes, I knew those horrible lights in the background were not good, but the bride and groom are a good foot taller than I am so my camera was angled up...next time I need to wear platform boots like KISS. (Only leave the KISS makeup off!)

I was using the 18-55 lens with a filter. Didn't think about the filter causing the problem. I have to say that I felt a little stupid for not changing the iso. I think I had it that high from taking pictures of my husbands band in a bar. I even bought 400 film as backup for the thing. Although I had a 2nd photographer as well.

 

The flash wasn't firing and it the zoom motor wasn't working. It had been the night before. I haven't tried it since.

 

I know how to get the blue line out. I'm bummed because its in so many pictures. I have photoshop elements 6 on my mac and the old regular photoshop 6 on the pc side of my mac.

 

Javier, thanks for the compliment on composition. I had my 2nd photographer get some pics from the same view of the groom. I also have a few good shots of the groom when he first sees the bride and my friend got the shot of the bride when she first saw the groom.

 

Your edits look good and no need to take them down.

 

Maria~Thanks for all the input. I just plain didn't know exactly what details needed to be worked out. I did do the groom's and bride's pictures separately with their family and wedding party side. So I felt like I didn't have much to do afterward, but it was chaos and half the time was spent looking for people. I'll keep in mind giving them a time to be ready for pics again. I didn't have any sort of contract with them because I was doing it as a friend...mostly. I didn't even have a dslr when they asked me to do their wedding. They did pay me $300 and I'll be giving them a cd of edited images. I'm charging her brother $600 since he and I aren't really friends, but acquaintances, and I don't feel the need to give them a gift. They agreed to it, but I'll be more formal about it. I still need to write up some contract.

 

Okay, its late and this is a long response. Probably because I homeschool my 4 kids and don't talk to grown ups very much! LOL...pardon if there are any typos I'm typing without my contacts in and can't see a thing.

I was the photographer at a wedding last Saturday. At the rehearsal my flash

(540) worked just fine. (I have the k10.) However, at the wedding I couldn't get

it to work right so I ended up just using the on camera flash. It was sooo

frustrating. I didn't change any settings, that I know of! Anyway, there was

flourescent lighting only. On several pictures I have blue lines that look like

a ghost of the overhead flourescent lights. How do I avoid it next time? Now I

need to try to fix them.

 

Also, I was doing this as mostly a gift and they knew I had never done a wedding

before. They paid me $300 and will get a cd of about 150-200 edited photos,

possibly more. They were pretty worn out by the time we got to their after

wedding photos. Beforehand we had done a bunch of pictures separately, so that

was good. I had so many more ideas, but the bride and groom seemed worn out so I

didn't get as many. They had a receiving line of 250 people to get through

before we did these pictures. So, my questions are: As a photographer, do we

have any input in the order of events at the wedding? And, if your bride and

groom seem tired by the time you get to pictures do you just do a few and let

them get on with it or do you just "force" them (nicely) to get them done?

 

I will be doing the bride's oldest brother's wedding in June so I hope to have

some of these things worked out. It was such a long day. I was worn out, ended

up with a migraine that lasted sooo long, and had to buy an external hard drive

because I ran out of room on my computer!

My husband and I have found good quality ones at Goodwill. My favorite has the quick release head. I couldn't tell you the brand because I don't remember those things, but it is very sturdy and adjustable. My husband is a foot taller than myself and we can use it back and forth quite easily! I think he paid $6.99.

Hmm, makes me want to pick up a K1000. I saw one on craigslist for $35 recently.

I'll be shooting pics for a couple of weddings soon with my k10d. I have a zx-30

that I bought about 8 years ago. I'm thinking of using that as a backup camera

just in case something horrid happens. My question is: What film should I pick

up? I've heard the place is very bright, but I haven't been there myself. I used

to just shoot in 800 because it was easy to capture my little boy with.

This is my favorite photo. I have lots of blurry ones, though! I do have a few of the kids patiently waiting for me to focus. Its only know that I've started to pay attention to all the flashing things (all the green icons) when I'm looking through the viewfinder. I'm hoping I'll get faster at this focus thing.

 

I'm on a K10, by the way. Too much camera, but I'm hoping to learn quickly. I have the 18-55, but I tend to like my old 28-80 that came with my film slr several years ago. I also have the 70-300 and the 560 flash. I'm looking into getting a diffuser for that, I think. The more I play with the camera, the better I understand the manual, the better I understand the manual, the more I can really play with the camera...and so on!

I will post some pics after my marathon grocery shopping trip. Besides that, I just totally reorganized my little scrapbooking area and I can't remember where I put my card reader. (I gave my cord to my sister in law because she lost hers and I have a little kodak digital that I let the kids use.)

I am thrilled! I picked up a manual 50 mm 1:2 for $30. (Don't tell me if I got

ripped off!) I am amazed at the results! Now I just need to practice fast

focusing! I took a great photo of 2 of my kids outside at night, no flash, with

only a couple of street lights around. My husband says he definitely wants me to

take photos of his band with that lens. After seeing lots of blurry kids he

promised the band will stay still!
