Hello,
Im thinking of buying a used Nikon D80. My question is whats a low number of actuations thats acceptable? I
believe actuations means the total number of pictures taken with the camera. Correct me if im wrong.. :p
Any help would be great, thanks!

There are many threads about this subject but would like an answer that is more
updated. So I apologize for asking the same question. What are the main
advantages of shooting raw? Ive read that you can post-process RAW a lot
easier, what does that mean? I believe it means you can change white balance,
exposure, etc, but cant you also do that with jpeg? Does shooting RAW produce
higher quality photos? Any information would help..
THANKS

i feel the prime lens are expensive for me, except the 50mm f1.8. Also, id like to zoom instead of a fixed lens :(

funny, i bought this lens 4 days ago on amazon and it was $110. wonder why they raised the price? o.O

Hi, Id like to ask if this would be a good lens setup. I am looking into buying
a tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and a nikkor 18-200 vr. Thinking of using the 18-200 VR
during the day time giving me at that extra focal range with acceptable
quality(some say its pretty darn good for this kind of lens). I was thinking of
using the tamron for night photos and indoors because I heard the 18-200 is not
very good in low light or night shots. My main focus is just taking great
quality photos during vacation trips, night photos, regular day time photos
with family, and landscape. If there is a different setup which is better and
similiar to this, go ahead and recommend it :)
What I do have right now is a Nikon D50 and a 50mm f1.8
Any information would greatly be appreciated, thank you!

Well, I actually wanted to get an SLR before summer cause of some vacations I'll be going to. Also, if I do wait for Photokina and wait for the release of the updated D80, im sure it will run be around $1200 atleast? or am I over exaggerating? I was intending of buying one of these body USED. I found some used bodies of the D200 for $850-900 and some D80 body for $680-$750. Also, I probably would just buy one lens to be in my budget, then later on in the future buy more lens..

Hello, I am considering to upgrade from a Nikon D50 to a D80 or D200. I am
wondering which is the best choice? Some say image quality is better on the
d200 and some say its equal. However I know that lens mean more in quality,
so... I dont know what I should do. I do know that if I do get the d80, i'll
have extra money to spend on some quality lense. Can anyone justify the real
big difference between these two SLRS? Im more concern of image quality than
anything. Sorry for a repost if so, but I had to get an updated discussion
rather than seeing one from couples months back. recommendations and
information would greatly be appreciated, thanks in advance!

is there something like a 18-70 vr? anything similiar to that? except the kit
lens 18-55 vr. I want something that has a good amount of zoom range but also
somewhere around 18 or 17 on the other end, but with VR. Can anyone recommend a
good one? THANKS!

Cool, thanks for all the great recommendations. Looks like Ill be getting the 18-70 because it has a good amount of range and from what people are saying, it seems to have good enough sharpness. As for my long range IM going for the 70-300 vr. woot! thanks a bunch guys. oh yeah, and im getting the 50mm f1.8 since its so cheap and beople just loveeee this lens, must be good :P

So I just purchased a used Nikon D50 body and I am wondering which lens I
should get? Im definitely getting a Sigma 10-20 for landscapes due to the great
review and recommendations from people on this forum, but IM not quite sure on
a good telephoto/zoom lens and long range zoom lens. I definitely need a
default lens and I really want to get the 17-55 f2.8, but its way out of my
price range. If anyone could recommend me some good lens with great sharpness,
that would be great! Hopefully each lens you recommend me is less than $400. :P
But all other recommendations are fine.. THANKS! :)

thanks for all the answers. looks like i might just go to a camera store and rent some wide angles and upload them on my computer to see how it really looks like. thats a great idea, but didnt know they rent out lense... :(
-
oh, ok.
You just taught me more about lens. thanks. So yeah, samples of each type (focal lenght) would be great! ty

I did a search but couldnt find what I was looking for so hopefully someone can
help me out a bit. Can anyone show me the difference in a wide angle lens as to
a standard 18mm-55mm? I know the wide angles are less than 18mm, like 10mm, so
can anyone show two pics with a focal point of 18mm and than a 10mm? thanks ! :)

oh yeah im using a nikon d50

I do have a tripod but do not know what head is. Im new to this photography but hope one day I can take pictures and edit them like all you guys found in the gallery section. Seems like one of my choices that intrigues me is the sigma 10-20. I hear a lot of great things about it. As for the prime lens, couldnt I just use my 18-200vr lens? Does it make that much of a difference in quality? Thanks for all the answers contributed :)

Can you guys and gals recommend me a couple of lense to compliment my 18-200vr
lens? I would like a variety to choose from. Id like to take some
landscape(wide angle I believe would suit this category), and regular pictures
for vacation (I assume my 18-200 would be doing this but any other
recommendations would help also). I definitely would like one for landscape
more than anything. Thanks a bunch!!!

What are the benefits of having a prime/fixed lens? Im guessing for 50mm, its
ONLY 50mm, no zoom..correct? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!
-
thanks for the response guys. As to your question Joe A, I will be using the standard nikkor 18-55mm and the nikkor 55-200mm AF-S DX VR lens.

Awww... well IM reading couple sites saying to use ISO100 for night shots of the city, what would you guys recommend as settings for these shots? Since my lowest ISO is 200, what should I use?
-
I just bought the Nikon D50, and I could of sworn it had an iso of 100. Am I
missing something? Is the minimum iso 200? Any help would be be appreciated.
Thanks!

I actually did have a tripod :X

I was shooting with a tripod, could it me that I was shooting with manual instead of auto-focus?
-
Can anyone recommend me a lens for the Nikon D50 where it will take good
quality zoomed pictures under $300? I also would like it where you can zoom in
at night city pictures and have great pictures. Im leaving for hong kong and
would like some nice pictures of the city lights and bulidings(during the
night).
The buildings arent that clear.. not sure if my settings arent great for the
sharpness, but one thing for sure is that the zoom on these lens arent far
enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Here are some examples. (this is taken with the standard lens 18-55mm lens)

Hey, thanks for all the help guys. I was thinking of getting this D80 in 2 months anyway. Im not going on another trip until then. From what you guys are saying, thats a good choice. I wouldnt mind saving some money.
As to your question Tim Knight, I have a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and a Nikon 50 f1.8.
