1.
On Sunday hurricane Irene is coming to town, I live near the ocean so I'm looking forward to capturing some shots. I use a D70s and have several lenses. Other than protecting myself and my camera from the wind, rain and salt spray are there any suggestions how to capture the best images? Thanks!

Halloween being my other expensive hobby, we decorate the yard each year with homemade zombies, joking skeletons, animated witch stirring a cauldron, fog machines, air canon and a flying ghost in the upstairs window. Last year's video is on you tube, if you want to see it search "Haunted Homestead 2008".
We got over 250 Trick or Treaters this year with a clear sky, near full moon and 70 degrees! Awesome weather for Boston in October. We've won the town halloween decorating contest so often we don't enter it, just do it for the fun of it.
3.
For the cost of a D90 I have puchased three D70's at online auction (college daughter, art student son and me).
None had more than 9,000 shutter actuations and all are performing flawlessly.
I have just as much difficulty learning how to correctly utilize a used camera as a new camera, and just as much fun when I get it right. Save your money for lenses!

 4.
I recently bought used D70 cameras for my two kids; $175 for one D70 body and $200 for another with the AF-S 18-70 kit lens. We already had several Nikkor lenses from the film cameras that work perfectly with the D70 bodies. Each D70 is under 10K actuations and so far, so good. They're happy and once in awhile they let me use them. Being able to continue to use the Nikkor lenses we already had is a real plus.

 5.
Sell it and let an enthusiastic amateur get started in digital photography with an affordable learning tool. This Christmas, I bought a (used) D70 from a friend for my high school daughter. She started photography with a (used) Nikon F65 learning basic b/w shooting, developing and printing.
Now she's learning with the D70 and, happily, the several lenses we have work with the D70. Formerly an art major, I have again become interested in photography. When I realized she's going off to college in the Fall and will take the D70 with her I bought another (used) D70 body online. (We'll fight over the macro lens in the Fall).
If you don't plan on using it, sell it so someone else can benefit from it. It doesn't benefit anybody sitting in the closet collecting dust while it depreciates further.
