Thanks guys ;)

You understand what i mean to say right :D

50.000 or more actuations is nothing for a professional dslr, so what's 5436 actuations ?

-

C'mon what are we talking about?!

I bought a second hand D700 on 2013-01-12 with 49,957 actuations, today it has 53,374 actuations and still works like a dream!! It's a workhorse use it and enjoy it !!

my 2 cents ;)

Check out http://www.bwvision.com/

Joel Tjintjelaar is a master in long exposures and has various tutorials and tools on his site.

Good luck.

I have the AF 70-210 f4-5.6 D push-pull since a week and for me it's perfect : light weight, good build quality, good IQ.
I sold my 80-200 2.8 AFS last week and replaced it with the 70-210 and a D700.
The 80-200 was (in my case) 34 times more expensive, yes it was better but not shockingly much imo.
Old lenses can be very good, if you like the IQ it produces you don't need a new one.

-

If you don't need the wide angle i'd say go for the 35+55-200 combo
If you don't need the tele i'd say go for the 35+18-105 combo
If you want all : 18-55 + 55-200 + 35

I've had both the 18-55 and the 55-200 and they are both excellent lenses and not too expensive.

I went from a D200 to a D90 which i don't regret. The D90 does almost everything the D300 does.

-

You will not be dissappointed by the D90, it does everything the D300(s) does but a tad slower and lighter. It feels a lot more solid than you expect, i suggest you try one in a local store.

-

I still regret buying a D200 over a D40.....now i have a D90 and i can tell you if the D5000 performs the same as the D90 you'll love it. If i didn't need the built in AF motor i'd bought a D5000.

Start with these :
- Nikon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6G DX
- Nikon 55-200mm F4.-5.6 AFS DX VR
- Nikon 50mm 1.8 D
- Nikon SB-600
In the meanwhile save up for the Nikon 17-55/2.8 AFS and the 70-200/2.8 AFS VR.
Pictures of babies up close at F1.8 didn't give me the satisfactory results.....indirect flash at F5.6 looks better.
But that's just my 2 cents.

-

I'd consider saving up for the D5000 which is the better camera to start with, otherwise i'd go for the D40 which has better IQ than the D3000 in terms of noise.

-

I have the same experience as Pen but then with my 80-200 AFS.
Close focussing isn't the strong point of the 80-200.

-

D50 has no CLS Commander Mode.

-

I am very happy with the canon mp620, it's wireless and prints very well

-

You might consider a D100 because of the durability.

-

FWIW here's a pic of my bag.
Left : D200+MB-D200 and 17-55/2.8
Bottom : 80-200/2.8+HB-17
Middle : Batteries for SB-600
Right : F80+50/1.8D
Top : HB-31 Hood - SB-600
The huge hoods are my "problem", the 80-200 fits better without the hood.

I suggest the Thinktank streetwalker harddrive
http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/streetwalker-harddrive-backpack.aspx
It was a tad too big for my gear (same list ex. D90, 10.5 and SB900)
I bought the lowepro flipside 400 AW which just could hold your equipment excl. the notebook. But then it'll be quite stuffed.
BTW it's a backpack, they have other large bags.

-

Definately glass first, i allso decided otherwise in the past by buying first the new body and then the good glass......won't happen again though.
I don't think using the 18-70 on the D700 will give you even satisfying results as the 24-70 on you r D70.

You could buy a used 17-55/2.8 and use it untill you have the funds for both the D700 and the lens and then sell the 17-55 for about the same as you bought it.

-

The F80 Joris ir referring to is probably the one i bought last week ;)
Allso i was thinking of buying a F100 but i don't regret buying the F80, wonderfull camera.
Not as rugged as the F100 but next time i need one i'll buy another F80.
And because i use it next to my D200 with 17-55/2.8 and 80-200/2.8AFS the lesser weight of the F80 is a plus.

Taken with a borrowed F80 during holiday in Germany:

Sounds like a broken AF module.
If under warranty : send it to Nikon.
If the warranty has expired i think it's wise to buy a new one ( or 2nd-hand )
Good luck.

-

or go for the Canon 5D with the 70-200 f4 IS and the 24-70 f2.8 L or the 24-105 F4

-

Could you keep us posted on the results and the costs please?

-

zoom to 35mm, push the silver button and simultaniously twist the lens (can't remember which direction...)

-

I'd go for the 55-200 AFS VR, because it's the only lens i regret selling.
It's good and cheap, the VR compensates a little for the 3rd element.

-

I'm going to buy a new bag tomorrow for safe transportation of my small fortune which weighs approx 2 kg at most, add 5 kg of glass and camera..... 15,4 pounds?

Refurb D600 has 5436 actuations!
