1. Did someone slam your bag, with the D750 inside, against some wall? That is a pretty serious damage.

In any case, if the shutter on the D750 is damaged, and now the lens mount is seriously damaged, I would assume it is no longer economical to repair it. For that kind of impact, the frame is probably no longer straight.

Just for comparison, B&H is now selling a new D750 for $1500, refurb for $1100: Nikon D750 DSLR Camera (Body Only, Refurbished by Nikon USA)

Maybe this is an opportunity for you to upgrade.

Well there was an 8 year old boy and a 7 year old boy so that scenario is quite possible, but it doesn't matter, its done and I don't think either of them did it.

So if repair is not likely is it worth anything to anyone? A seller like KEH or BH or some school?

  2. I now have a far worse problem.

I left my camera in the bag for the duration of the trip. It mostly sat in bedrooms, since I did not need to carry a camera bag around. At airport security I took it out for the scanner and found this (see attached pictures). It look like the lens has sheared off the body with much damage to each. Not sure if its worth sending in to Nikon, they will likely charge just to check it out or to try to sell it as is and look for a new body and new 24-70.

  3. Guys thanks again for the replies. I need to read them carefully and check out what you wrote. I did try to put it in video and I got an error. Sorry for a slow reply, connection here is tough and when I get the replies, my kids are sleeping.

Maybe I its time for a D850 :) :) I had considered renting one since its fun to have two bodies and not to have to switch lenses. I hadn't considered that I would NEED a backup rather than just enjoy one for fun.

  4. Hi guys! Thanks for the replies!

    -No error message

-The same on every image (since it started) sometimes the black slant at the bottom is there and sometimes not. (Makes me think its a combo of mirror and shutter).

-Great question about live view, I hadn't thought to try it. Here's what happens in live view: the view on the screen look normal, but the recorded image has the same problem.

  5. DSC_9282.thumb.jpg.72be324eb5b05f1e17524f0845075988.jpg Hi All!

I just got to Italy on vacation... and my D750 is malfunctioning. Its either the shutter or mirror (I think). Can anyone tell what the problem is and have any troubleshooting ideas? I took the battery out, set the mirror up, reset all the settings, tried different lenses, different battery. None of that helped. It just started all of a sudden.

  6.
Thanks. Great points:
I guess I don't really need more gear, but that's a nice thing about renting - I don't have to buy it and after all, I do love gear.
Lighting would be a good technique for me to get a better grasp on. Certainly a challenge.
Would be nice to try some wide zooms and a super zoom.
Set aside personal time. It isn't my job to document every family gathering and it is important to take photos 'for myself'.

  7.
Thanks for the idea guys. I don't have much experience using lighting so the lights is a nice idea, but Grandma might kill me if the flash is popping off all morning. Still, interesting idea. I don't use lighting or familiar with it, but this could be a nice opportunity.
Good point about the 1.4s Joe.
Maybe this isn't the best time to rent gear but my NAS is itching so you know...
Still open to more suggestions!

  8.
So I went on a weekend camping trip and rented a D500 and some lenses to try, stuff that I probably won't buy any time soon, but I screwed up and reserved the wrong dates. I was able to cancel with no money lost but I lost the opportunity.
Soooo... I have family coming for Christmas time and I thought maybe I'd treat myself to some rentals, but nothing is really standing out as something I need to take pics of kids opening gifts etc.
I have a D750, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 f4 and a 35mm f1.8. I love low light shooting, but I don't know if any other bodies would beat the D750 in low light, except maybe the D5, please correct me if I'm wrong. So I could rent a D5 but its pricey and sportsy for a bunch of kids opening presents. Any other bodies that might be fun to play with?
I also thought i might be nice to rent some 1.4's, maybe a 24mm,or 35mm or 80mm or maybe some wide zooms like the 14-24. I might rent the 28-300 as I am curious about it as I get older and lazier I am more interested in compromises. What would you rent?

  9.
This thread contained everything I love. My favorite camera, my favorite camera store, my favorite camera website, and my favorite camera website moderator, discussing something interesting. Sorry... off topic... The D750 is a fine camera, I'm glad I bought it when I did even though it was more expensive then.

  10.
Sometimes some similar thing happens just when writing jpegs in Adobe Camera Raw or photoshop. When I re save a jpeg it usually writes ok without the glitch. My guess is its either that or memory card.

  11. I find the 3d and the dynamic area both easy to use and I don't feel like I don't have control. I have never used auto area af as I would also like to not lose control.

I find it hard to keep track of nikon af types but they do work well.

In 3d mode it does jump around but that is because I am using a long focal length and my hand is not that steady.

  12. Hi guys

I am renting a d7200 and occasionally the autofocus points in the viewfinder spell out "3D" I can't figure out why and the body didn't ship

with a manual. Searching google didn't help. Anyone know what's up?

  13.
Hi Tom
I know Oleta is not the best, but its a ten minute walk from my brother's place. I will try to get to some of the places you listed above, but you know how it is with kids and in laws and their kids... come to think of it I'll be happy to drive an hour away from them :-/ Definitely not going to put any gear on a kayak... I think that Wakodahatchee might be ideal since its only 63 minutes according to the google.
Any recommendations for the Vero Beach area?
