Due any day now...
Backlit with evening sun and filled with Vivitar 5600 flash on camera.
Background underexposed by 2.5 stops and lightly burned in post
processing.

Not to make more of this shot than it deserves, but the shadows on
the face of this energetic model remind me of a mask, war paint,
engine grit around race goggles, and a thousand other adventures
stored in a boy's imagination. What do you think? Just a moment of
silliness, or did I catch something special here?

The humor in this giraffe photo seemed as plain as the face on my
nose the first time I saw it.

The highlights in this photo were so badly blown that I almost
deleted it. There was no color showing in the camera preview at all.
One year later I noticed the faint whisp in the blown out sky while I
was browsing the directory. Since I shot the original in RAW I was
able to recover this amazing sky. If I hadn't dodged the tree trunks
and touched up a few branches this would have qualified
for "unmanipulated." It's an incredible era to be an amature
photographer!

I shot this as a lighting excercise. Edits include rotate, crop,
dodge and burn to bring out the face and removing a small wrinkle on
the lip.

I see an elderly woman with failing health about to make her final journey. Trepidation, fear, expectation... you could read all of into her gaze. The young man, a grandson maybe, ambivalent, a little sad, focused for the moment on his final farewell but ready to head back into the world he's yet to conquer as soon as the train leaves. Not a bad kid, just too young to fully absorb the importance of the moment. I wonder if the suit he is wearing is for business or memorial reasons... The longer you look, the more you are drawn into the story... your own story.
Any image that can get that much interpretation out of me at a glance is a powerful capture. Well done!
