1.
Yes Zenfolio allows your customers to download images from your archive. If you plan on selling alot of stock photography you may want to stick with photoshelter. The premium account is the way to go the layout I have on my site is the premium ($100 a year price) I do have some of the options hidden on my site I believe a clean and simple site is key to success. Business premium allows you to have more control over orders and shipping, your even aloud to edit or had a gift to there order to thank them for there order.

I am using Zenfolio.com its a web hosting site a lot like Photoshelter, you might want to check them out they got reasonable prices as low as $25 a year to $250 a year. I'm using the Business Premium plan but you can always upgrade as your business grows. I do think Zenfolio and photoshelter are a lot alike in many ways. Here's a link to my site if you wish to check it out and see if Zenfolio would fit your needs better.
3.
Hi folks,
I'm not 100% sure if i posted this in the right category i'm new to this site. I have a website hosted with zenfolio.com and I am able to sell prints and collect payment throw there service. What I am looking for is I have a passion for hiking and traveling along with my photography (this will be on all the same website) and want people to be able to pay a one time fee or a yearly fee for the info I have gathered on my travels, but zenfolio does not have any options for my needs. I looked at paypal but I cant write the HTML code in zenfolio. I guess what I'm looking for is a another website that handles payment that i can but a link to my site so when people want to pay a fee they can gain full access by clicking that option. If anyone as any info please let me know.

  4.
You might want to look into zenfolio.com they well host your website and give you standard templates to use or create your own custom theme. It's a breeze to upload and create custom galleries with a shopping cart that's through zenfolio and you can have your money deposited in your paypal account. You can have your own domain name of your choice. Zenfolio is a hosting service for photographers and artists. On my own site I have all the custom features up if you want to see if its something that might fit your needs.
I use Zenfolio.com for my small photography business and I love it, Zenfolio just released a upgrade to there services (custom homepage, allows links to your blog or facebook page, and a few other things as well) Zenfolio as several fulfillment options as well Mpix.com is one of them. I pay for the advanced option that cost $100 a year. To see what you get through Zenfolio check out my website at www.coloradowildphotography.com
7.
I agree with Aimee, prolabs are the way to go. I set up a website with Zenfolio.com and all my prints are done through Mpix.com. Zenfolio is a good place to start if you want to start a website, its clean and simple. Theres many many options u can do for page layout, what is visable and not visable in the gallery's, and set up is a breeze.

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago, where do I start?. When I was ready to build my website, I went through Zenfolio.com.
Reasons why i did:
1. Easy upload with very little headache.
2. Zenfolio is your hosting provider.
3. Clean and easy to read website that will keep your clients on your site longer and maybe buy more.
4. You can buy a domain name of your choice (I used Go Daddy) had no issues.
5. Zenfolio works with print labs like Mpix.com, Fotoflot.com, and a few others.Or if you do your own printing you can turn off that option.
6. Shipping world wide.
7. I think this is the big one "customer service" is amazing I had no issues at all. There Tech. department is great as well, I had issues uploading and I had the problem fixed in less than 2 hours.

The list goes on but for just starting out in photography this saved me a lot of time and wasted efforts. The only downside is you do have some limits on the hompage screen, they have a option where you can link a outside source to your site.
9.
i'm looking at starting a blog throw wordpress.com and want to increase my traffic to my website using that blog. i would mainly talk about landscapes and a couple of other things related. but i found a site called www.smorty.com and what it is, is u get paid to blog and increase traffic to my blog than to my site. it works like google in some ways but little different. as anyone out there tried something like this and if they have does it seem to work?

  10.
Marc, posting your photos on the internet for view of someone stealing them and making a profit of your images is a big deal. on my website i in bed a watermark right in the center of the image to stop that. but i read a article a few months ago about watermarks and how easy it is to remove in photoshop so that is not the most secure way to protect your work. another pointer they pointed out was to keep all your original files. there is a company i dont know the name but you can in bed a copyright number in your photos its not visable to the human eye but they say that is a good option. ive never tried it on my photos and have not looked in to it real deep so i cant say if that is the best option.

then how do i advertise that blog, i do have a website i can put a link to my blog but the whole point of this blog is i want them to find it than lead them to my website?

I have looked into wordpress.com for my blog is that a good blog site or is there something better out there?

  13.
I recently joined facebook to help bring more traffic to my website. I'm wondering if anyone out there does advertise on facebook and how well does it seem to work for bring traffic to my website? I'm also wondering if there is any useful tips other photographers are using on there facebook page that might be helpful as well? how well does the facebook ads that you can create work (pay per click)?

This is a different subject but what book keeping software do you guys suggest?

  14.
I'm currently in colorado and started to put a website togather. and wondering if i need to get a trade name (DBA) and apply for a colorado EIN and sales tax ID. this is strickly a online bussiness with sales of photographic prints, mats, and frames. my website is through zenfolio not sure if that matters.
