    Jack-

Erwitt fan indeed.... I have a follow-up photo to this one that I will post in the same portfolio-- could be this shot's companion...

    thanks for looking!

    Jeremy,

I think you are on to something here, but see a need to refine the vision a bit. In the photo submitted for the critique I see a modern anti-freeze bottle (maybe you wanted that in?), but it breaks me out of the period feel of the rest of the scene. A tighter shot of the tools or handles might be more to the essence.

I like the rendering and feel of the images-- that nice Tri-X bite! In some of the portfolio shots I see a noticeable lightness on the edges of the prints-- that pulls my eye out of the image.

I have been photographing "old stuff" since 1972 and it takes practice... to see what is important and include just that. I have had all kinds of things creep into shots that ruined them... only to see them later on. Jeremy I would think about reworking these shots with new approaches to cropping and framing.

I did want to see more of this farm and so the shots created a desire to see more.. that is good. Do you have more? Solid up to here overall-- good subject and original-- keep pushing to the core.

This is part of a series I took of a train load of tanks returning

from Iraq. It was starting to rain and I had about 15 minutes to get

my shots before the train starting pulling away. I never loaded an A12

back so fast! The rest of the series are posted on my gallery page.

    Comments welcome. Thank you,

    George Griswold
