1.
its a great lens that ive seen professionals and amateurs use alike. of course youll get better quality from a similar sigma for $200 more but for the price of the lens the quality is superb. i own one and strongy recomend it, even if you just purchase it without high expectations, i guaruntee youll be pleased.

  2.
you cant use any nikon lenses on a cannon camera, and vice versa, like you cant use any sony lenses on a pentax. some secret backdoor company somewhere out their may make a converter to do this but you can almost be sure it will decrease film quality if not hurt or completely ruin your camera, its not worth the chance

  3.
i do agree with the you in some way, although i dissagree in many more. i will admit to purchasing things online after physically checking them out. although i have talked to the local camera shops about this very subject. the folks that work at these shops have a deep love for photography and everything about it. i recently went in to test a lens before deciding to make my final puchase. the customer service person was very helpful and told me everything i needed to know to make my decision, then we got into talking about prices. he admitted and encouraged me to pay the cheaper price online. when i asked him how he expected business, he simply replied that he would rather see happy satistfied customers that he has helped than disgruntled ones who were forced to pay more. and by him saying this i can promise you and him that i will return to this store to make photo purchases (not everything is cheaper online!). the people that work at these shops realize how easy it is to purchase everything online and they enjoy knowing the fact that they are still needed in society, whether for purchases or advice.

  4.
ive come to the sudden realization that i think many new photographers have. in my life i have been practicing photography for a few years now and i am used to calling myself a "beginner". i had a sudden realization the other day when i was walking down the local shopping center.
its gotten to the point now where if i see something that intrigues me or just something that looks nice the first thing i do is reach for my camera, whether its their or not. i never noticed this before but whenever im out and about the first thing that comes to my mind is "oh man that would make a nice picture" or "i gotta get this on film". this is the point that i realizes my love for photography has grown from hobby to "obsession" haha.
im just curious to hear other people stories and if they have had the same point in their lives when they realized photography has gained a more important position in their life. the point where it grows from a small hobby to a way of life.
i dont even leave my house without my camera anymore strictly for that reason.
does anyone else have this same feeling or point in their life where they realized this feeling? or am i just going crazy?haha
cant wait to here everyones words of wisdom...

  5.
i think its very easy to have strong opinions about these types of portraits, not everyone was a fan of Avedons work either, but none the less is was meaningful work otherwise we never would of heard of it. like was said before, i dont think the meaning of this project was to flatter the subject, but to catch as real of a look as possible. youll notice most of the subjects appear to look as if they just walked into the door. im truly a fan, and i recognize that everyone has their own opinion, but im def a fan.

  6.
i personally use a powerbook G4 with upgraded memory, i used to own a Dell much like you did, since switching to the to MAC things have been a lot easier although i do still feel a little foreign. i tell my friends that i feel lost cuz i dont know all the shortcuts and how to fix things if it breaks, but they simply say "theirs nothing to fix" their are no shortcuts" thats the magic of a mac. my suggestion would be to go for the mac, its a common known fact that why it lacks some features of a PC its a steady workhorse for photography.

  7.
the combination you have doesnt sound off, it all depends on how much light you have. if you didnt have a lot of light in the room, just one small bulp, then that sounds correct, if the room was filled with bright light and you had a wide open aperture (f2.8) and a really slow shutter (1/8sec) then the pic will turn out white. it looks like you have a strong desire to get into digital photography in which case purchasing a DSLR will no doubt push your desire. just dont let megapixels fool you, the D40 is an amazing camera, along with the D60, they both have their strong points and shouldnt be deminished strictly because of mega-count. i mean the first DSLR had between 1 and 2 megapixels and it was professional grade!

  8.
gengerally in the white balance situation a quick fix is to custom change it using the (Kelvin) function, you can raise the kelvin a few clicks to give a warmer tone, and this is easy enough to do on they fly. as far as the lighting goes, if your using a flash in a dark room with a diffuser its simply not enough light, try positioning the baby near a window. youd be suprised how much light you actually need when your eye tells you theirs enough

  9.
the 50mm f1.8is a great lens that pros and amateurs alike use. its ballparks atabout $135 depending on where you purchase it which makes it a lense you may even be able to purchase just by saving money instead of selling your current collection. at that price its a fabulous route. the 1.4g is a significant price different for a (.4) difference in aperture and very very slight increase in picture quality. i personally have owned both and would say that the 1.4 isnt worth the extra money. hope this helps!

  10.
i personally have never been a fan of the stock neckstraps. i usually purchase a gel neckstrap after i get a camera bacause im one to hold the camera around my neck for hours a day instead of in a bag. all in all i have only been happy with a nikon neckstrap once and it was because it was 10 yrs old and fairly broken in

  11. i just purchased a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 rangefinder off of ebay, when i received it, it had no batter so the shutter didnt

work at all. i went to the local camear shop, purchased a battery, and the shutter slowly moved. i talked to the guy

and he said it would cost roughly $60 to $100 USD to go in a thoroughly clean the camera and lens and recalibrate

the lens. i only spent $15 on this camera, so im not totally bummed that it has something wrong with it. the

underlying question is... is it worth spending $60-$100 to fix this camera? i have never used this camera before so i

dont know if the quality is even worth that much, any help would greatly be appreciated... thanks!

  12. if you dont have the money to invest in a cheap negative dryer (which are hardly ever cheap) you should search for the perfect spot with the least amount of dust. because no matter how much photo-flow you use, if your drying dear dust, you will get those squiggles.

    is the film old?

are you agitating hard enough to remove dust in the processing?

try using a negative brush before processing just to remove and stuck on dust,

    ~Anthony

  13. perhaps someone can help me... i just purchased a used Argus C3, im not used to rangefinders in general. i

managed to load the film after a trial and error process. but im not sure how the film advances after i take a

picture, im used to it advancing after i pull the advance lever on my usual SLR. but i dont see the wind wheel

turning... perhaps someone can help me out? somehow i have to advance it myself after i take a picture?

  14. i have posted a photo of some flower petals on this website, and on my home pc

when i open it in windows picture and fax viewer its crystal clear, but after i

uploading, viewing it through photo.net, its very blurry, i dont want people to

get the wrong impression, its a great photo and crystal clear but for some

reason when i posted it, it looked like this....

    http://www.photo.net/photo/7130437

    somebody please help!

  15. i recently bought the D80 about 3 months ago and i am a beggining photographer, it was my first DSLR away from film and i must say i enjoy every minute of it, i use it on average of 3-4 times a week, havent had to clean it, and am still playing with the features trying to find them all. the body size is huge for all photographers, i dont care what they say, if you cant hold a camera right you cant take a descent pictures, and this is one of the key deciding factors that made me go 80 over 40 or 40x (the 60 wasnt out yet but i hear its even smaller) i know im replying late but if you havent already bought a D80 id suggest you do, its a plain and simple decision, nothing better for less than $1000-$1500
