1.
*whew* Aaaaaaand i have been talked down off THAT particular ledge. Thanks, my fellow lensheads....

OKAY - so then what about these sweet (used) 70-200 f4 for $600. from KEH- they are connected with HERE, photo.net- Anybody ever deal with them...? There's a few of them up for offer....and they are listed as being in excellent or like new...Whats up with that? Do they get any points for reliability for being connected to photo.net..?
2.
$799. for the 7D body...
Now of course my first hesitation is "If it's too good to be true..." BUT... the stores ratings are excellent....

I will be calling tomorrow to ask if it's a refurb or an import grey market or something....

Anybody by any chance ever ordered from "PhotoVideo Superstore".....?

ugh. lol sweeeeet price.

Thanks for your opinions everybody...... Wish me luck if i go for it.....

 3.
Yeah... :-( i do know the noise on the 7D wont AT ALL be as good as the Mark 2... but i really have a financial bottom line that REALISTICALLY prohibits getting the Mark 2...
If have enough $ in actuality to get it- but if i did- THAT would be ALL i could get.... Think i'd rather go with the 7D- and be able to also get the 70-200 lens and a mic......
Hmmm ho-boy.... so my intel iMac 4g memory using "Premiere Pro" might not work well...? *grumble grumble*

"XLR" inputs, Puppyface...? But, yes- thankfully i factored in need to get an audio capture system...

Thanks again, everybody.....
4.
THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH for your time...! It can be such a help to get reassurance from those better experienced.. even thought each shooters personal experience and skill set vary....
And how funny as well- i had been just looking at some very nicely priced 70-200 (used) here at the Keh. com link... So im thinking that INDEED will be the winner....
Although, PuppyFace - when i mentioned the soft focus- i meant it as a detriment, not as a desired, intention effect... But as Randall mentioned, the initial 'problems' seem to have been more about the difference in using the more extensive AF system, as some blogs had suggested...
You are the second person to recommend a Rode mic...my next round of research... Is the Tascam DR-100 a mic as well, or some kind of audio processing thing...(forgive my utter ignorance...)?

Thanks again- to u both...
5.
Alright-! So- the CHECK IS IN MY HAND. And i'm pretty sure i know which 'upgrade' im going to go with. PLEASE- any input- ESPECIALLY from those with a 7D and/ or have used their DSLR for making short videos, narrative or abstract- is appreciated- and remember- i am a somewhat midrange advanced enthusiast far as shooting stills- but BARELY a beginner for using DSLR video… So if u can explain or break down any tech talk… MUCH to BE OBLIGED I AM…

For the longest time- i had thought when the time came- i would upgrade from my cheesy XSi (a great intro dslr, tho) to a FF 5D Mark 2… This is my last semester before graduating with a double BA in Graphic Design and Photography - so i need to use this $ to get as much a better quality image maker as i can…
I dreamed of a 5D- i fondled my friends 5D's…. I bought nothing but EF lenses in anticipation of the DAY one would be mine…

HOWEVER - no matter how much i tried to ignore it.. I kept hearing great things about the 7D.. As i weaned myself off the keeping up with the tech lust Jones-(and learning of the video 'minuses' with the 5DM2) i started to think- if i got the 7D - i could conceivably also get a bit of helpful gear in addition to the body...

I THINK i have gotten over my hesitation that going from the XSi to the 7D would be more of a lateral move than an upgrade- but THEN i also started to read about apparent soft images with the 7D and that several blogs/reviews were reporting that the XSi actually shoots sharper- then i ALSO read other blogs reviews saying THAT testing was erroneous…

With my increasing interest in doing short videos- and the fact that i fully acknowledge i've got a long way to go even with still shooting - the 7D is looking like the way to go…
So im asking anybody who has the time and inclination to answer the above- and maybe as well- clue me into a couple things to watch out for in starting to do video… and / or if what im planning sounds like the way to go….

1- AM i correct that the 7D would indeed be an upgrade more than a lateral move from my XSi… (especially in low light)..?

2- Any 7D owners care to tell me about their experiences with it as far as soft focus/softer images…?

3- Suggestions for a lens to use (primarily to 'round out' the ones i have) that would be good for video as well…? (My lenses currently are 50 1.8, 24-70 2.8L, 100 f2, and a SIGMA 10-20 f4…)

4- Suggestions for (inexpensive) audio solutions/ gear to aid in getting good audio and a rigging system to use/hold the 7D in a more film camera way or whatever (maybe this isn't terribly important…?

5 - PLEASE - any pitfalls or 'if i knew then what i know now' about starting to delve into video from those who have for awhile now…?

THANKS MUCHLY ALL!

http://stefographer.com/

 6.
Ahh
Ok ok
starting to see the light...
hmmm and like the idea of getting great glass, come to think of it...
i can get 'more' of them for 'same' amount of a FF, as well..
my covetous tech-lust can still be satiated! whoo-hoo!

any suggestions for a REALLY good everyday lens...?

 7.
Wow.. so i may really have to re-examine my "whys" in getting one, huh...?
I've just spent all these years since getting my 1st DSLR (4 yrs) thinking that a FF would be the next logical step toward professional-hood (and yes, i know its more a matter of attitude, conduct and skill)... That i would upgrade to FF when i could afford it (and thanks to student loans, i soon can), and have my XSi cropped as a back-up body.. i have bought mainly EF lenses for this very reason...

Thanks for the compliments, Dan Glad u like.. I luv to share...

muchas gracias all...

 8.
well- that part of why i ask- Im thinking that sports would be one of the few exceptions to being able to get more from a FF.... and i have no ambition to do sports....
So is it REALLY just my tech lust that is pushing me to get a FF...?
Dont they deliver better quality images - with more ability for post-prod editing in the areas I will use it for mainly...? Fashion/portrait/food/travel.... ?
And since i dont want to use my camera for video- the 7D doesn't appeal to me so much...
Thanks again- all input appreciated...

 9.
So... for the past few years with my XSi.. i was under the impression that full frame- under ALL circumstances- gave u better quality images... I was assuming that FF was always sharper, better color and better performance in low light, with wider latitude for post-editing....
But i have been told a few times now that it depends on the situation.., and that perhaps it is really almost always MORE about the quality of the LENS..... Yet i dont know ANY 'professional' who works with anything less than a FF...
I am becoming increasingly serious about my photography- especially since i have an increasing amount of work that is coming my way, through word of mouth...
I am interested more and moreso in fashion/food/travel/portrait and nude photography...
I have about 4 lenses so far - 18-55 kit, a wide angle tamron, a 50mm/1.8 and a 200mm/2.0...i think a macro will be next, as well as a zoom portrait...
Am i wrong in thinking that a FF would ALWAYS serve me better with those subject interests...? I am really probably goning to get a FF regardless... but just wanted yo see if there are really are any reasons NOT to, with my eventual photography interests as listed here...

my site, if it helps http://stefographer.zenfolio.com/

Thanks so much all..u guys (and gals) give great help..

 10.
The only problem with waiting for the 2.8 is that it runs for around $1200. and the only reason i can even afford the 500. right now is from 'leftover' student loan $...
I came close to getting it when i had ALL the loan $, but didnt happen..... I could just wait till the next semester- but not sure how much i'll be getting...
I wanted to know if anybody this i would be disappointed by the low light performance of the 4...?
I know it's an L series, so in the right conditions it'll be awesome..., but in not so great situations - could i expect at least above averagely good-ly bad shots..?

 11.
I get SUCH great feedback from all u fellow Phonet'ers... i sometimes can't WAIT to pick yer brains...
SO - have the chance to get a gently used Canon 200-700 / L4, non IS, L series which i THOUGHT was a 2.8 when i first contacted the seller... He only wants $500 for it- and i will be able to try it in person b4 buying...
My only hesitation is like i said- thought it was the 2.8 - I would have wanted to use it in rather low light situations, and portraiture - so will the L4 be a huge disappointment for me, quality wise... Most of me is thinking no. I know with it's size i'd need a pod anyway...
I have other 4.5 and 4 lenses, and am just mostly happy with them in less than ideal lighting...
My lenses so far the kit 18-55 4.5
Canon 50mm/1.8
Canon 100mm 2.8
wide angle Tamron 10-22
But for $500- could i really go wrong (BTW- if i DO buy it- it would mean only taking ONE photo class at school next semester, instead of the two i had planned, although that would mean a more reasonable 3 classes total...)?
WOT say thou, fellow shutterstuds? Buy or no?
Thanks everybody, as always

 12.
While i guess im not even 100% sure i need it with my recent acquisition of CS4 Suite...
At least as an organization and storage system....Lightroom would seem to be my 1st choice....
But i always get such great info here so....

Is there anything that Apple's Aperture can do that Lightroom can't ...?

Im also starting to shoot in RAW, so i do need it for that.....

Thanks all!

 13.
Hello all...my first post in THIS forum....
wanting to get my first lighting kit- even tho i really have yet to learn how to use strobe or anything in any hands-on way...
But i will be taking classes- and would like to have a simple, small beginners kit to have for myself... To use and practice whenever the oppourtunity comes up as i learn....
I am currently shooting with the Canon XSi - with the kit 18-55 (ugh) and the nifty fifty 50mm/f1.8 - hope to have the 100mm EF/f2.0 soon as well....
In any case i vaguely understand that some bodys use TTL or something... but not all strobe wireless triggers can be used with all flash systems....
Here is one kit i am considering.... but is it's slave trigger/transmitter compatible with my XSi...?
Can anyone tell for such... or am i mixing something else up for the kind of compatibility between cameras and lighting slave systems...?

 15.
So while i could sell me firstborn into human trafficking in order to afford the four figure price tag of the legendary 70-200/f2.8.... I'd rather like to keep the lil' bugger around (at least until he starts talking..)
So what other lenses- preferably actual Canon (altho i've had good experiences with 3rd party glass) has everybody had experience with- good for portraiture, nudes, low light....
I've been looking at some primes- which i've never owned- but the lower price tag on most of them makes them VERRRY appealing...

Wot say thou, Photo.net'ers......?

 16.
Hey all- Yes i do have the kit 18-55, but had bad barrel with it (didnt know how 'easily' correctable it is apparently, altho i haven't tried it in my Photoshop yet...)...didn't realize that THAT should be wide enough for a smaller room... (dont have actually measurements)...
The friend and i decided (somewhat mistakenly apparently_ that in a small room- a wide-angle would be better, as we both became leary of using the kit that had given the unacceptable distortion (again- before i learned it was my fault somwhat for not having a good grasp of barrel distortion and it's remedies...).
I would luv to be able to add another lens, so i would like to go ahead and let my friend help/get the wide-angle for me....
And this Filter>Lens>Distort... i only have PS CS (8).. i don't see the Lens option... Is it only for CS4..?
Thanks everybody....

 17.
Will be shooting some smallish interior rooms that a friend has designed....
He's buying- or going in half, for a good wide angle, as there will be other rooms i'll be shooting for him
over time....and from what i understand- there's something tricky about getting true wide-angle with my XSi's sensor, yeah?
And is it a joke to call under $500 mid-priced? lol
Thats probably more like low-end, eh?
U all have been SO helpful previously... thought i'd reap the benefits of all that knowledge yet again..
And a very big thanks for all input and replies, guys.....
Happy shooting....
