I usually select the area then use the shadow/highlight control to try to being back detail. This won't work if there is no colour information, i.e. if the area is completely white. In which case the only option would be to clone something in from another part of the image.
I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Got this during a 1989 trip to Papua New Guinea. Partially edited (auto color) and existing as a layered psd. Trying to tone down the breast-plates of the guy standing on the right, and the old guy behind the kid in the middle. Tried different things both seperately and in combination, (desaturate, grayscale, brightness, contrast, levels, curves, etc.). Some worked better than others, but nothing to get excited about. Any suggestions (other than scrap it) ?....Izzy

Was looking at this before. Knew there was something but couldn't quite figure it out. Took another look just now. Not completely sure, but think the problem might be that it's little too sharp.

Nice one. Don't know if this was converted from color or captured in grayscale. Either way, it looks like grayscale was the way to go. Do have a couple of nits though. #1 = the horizon (more specifically the waterline). It's going up to the right. Starting at the left (where the waterline meets the land). Think going straight across from there, would I think've made for a better composition.
#2 Position of the tree is good. Looks like just the right amount of space between the tree and the right edge of the frame. Don't know if it was possible, but do think the left edge coud be a little further out.
#3 Think cropping up from the bottom a little (maybe a skosh or two above your signature) wouldn't hurt either.

This photo was undeniably heavily processed with the goal of looking like a painting rather than a photo.
It worked!...Izzy

Well! As a photo it sucks!!! As an interesting piece of art work however!!! (don't know how to do an imogee for thinking so I settled for the three exclamation points). Call me weird, but I like it. Sort of reminds me of some "rough surface" oil paintings I vaguely remember seeing once or twice. Or some artistic finger painting. ???? Do they even make fingerpaints anymore???

Aha! Tried to quote but it didn't work. (shrug) No matter!
If I remember my geology and plate tectonics correctly. The African plate is moving North and either subducting under the European plate, or riding up over it. The action causes crumpling and deforming of rock at the edges of the plates . Kind of like what's happening where the Indian (Deccan) plate is subducting under Asia. There the result is (and continues to be) The Himalayas. In the case of The Mediterranean, what (presumably) will happen is that The Mediterranean Sea, will eventually become The Mediterranean Mountains. Not to worry though. It's not likely to happen anytime soon.

"I still cannot think how these flat screen like structures are created by falling water. "
Don't really know, and this might be a stretch, but this waterfall (I don't recall the name) is in Waterton Lakes NP in Canada (other side of the border from Glacier in Montana). That white slanting down from right to left is water. Maybe seepage from something like that (shrug).

Interesting! Especially from a geological standpoint. It looks like it was originally laid down flat, then subjected to upward pressure, lateral pressure, or both, resulting in its deformity. Do you have any information regarding the geological history of this particular area?

I like it! It's a good tree. I think it'd be an even better tree, if it wasn't so centered. Maybe a slightly different angle, with the tree off center to the right or left a little, and not taking up so much of the frame....Izzy

Huh! I like it. Sort of an air of mystery about it. What was it? A warehouse? Somebodys home perhaps? A workplace of some kind? A prison? What stories could those walls tell if they could speak? I know this isn't what you might've been looking for as a critique, but that's what comes to mind.

More of a window into the past and present, as it was then and how it is now,
That's good! Window rather than machine. Better terminology!!
Aside from that. Dprev! Used to post there. Thought it was no more! What happened?

Not sure when or where I got this from but I remember reading it. Basically it went something like this.
A camera is a time machine, in the sense that it can capture an image that exists at a specific instant and a specific point in time and space, freeze and store it, for later retrieval and transfer to a more permanent facility, where it can be viewed, over and over again.

Noatalgia!!!!

Hmmm! Can't really speak to the critiquing points. But! It sort of reminds me of a couple of signs I once had on a wall of a place I once had. It was a bunch of years ago, but I still remember the signs. One said "don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out of it alive", and the other said "life is like a bowl of cherries, but you can't have them all".
-
Well! Definitely thinking out of the box. Like the contrast in the brickwork.

It looks like the rogue album was created by this fella

You might want to contact him to confirm this and see what can be done about it
I saw that too. At the moment however, it is as Papa Tango points out, more of an annoyance than a problem. I do think it's some kind of weird glitch rather than a deliberate invasion (so to speak). That said, I'm not going to be posting anymore stuff (at least for the moment) to either of the two albums I created, so I'm going to hold off for a while and see what happens.

Are there images in that third album, and/or does it have a name?
When I view your album list, I only see the two you have referenced. Have you tried simply deleting the 'intruder?' ☠️
"Life As It Is", and there are images in it.
When I view my album list, like you I only see the two I've created.
I checked to see if I could access that third album and it seems I can. But ! Assuming it's a legitimate album, belonging to somebody. I didn't try to do anything with it.

I recently created two albums "Coastscapes", and "Candeschultz". Those are the only two albums I've created. When I go to upload photos, I get the dialog box asking me if I want to upload to an existing album or create a new one. I click on existing, and the two I've created come up (as expected). How come? A third one comes up, that I haven't created, don't know whose it is, or what it's doing on my logon???

As far as I know, the PM (Personal Message) function here is working. If someone makes a comment you want to respond to directly, click on their name, which will take you to their personal page, and you should see a SEND MESSAGE button.
Thankyou!
