  1. Hello everybody.
I was offered a Praktica MTL50 with the shutter locked. Thanks to the abundance of information and help on the internet, I was able to fix it. However, when removing the mirror box I inadvertently disconnected some wires without first noting the positions (typical amateur error). Does anyone happen to have a diagram or photo of the connections? The connections are under the small screw plate inside the battery compartment. Thanks

  2. Dear David, I don't have that experience with a digital camera, but in the analogue era when a camera caught seawater, the solution to save it was to wash it thoroughly with fresh water (distilled water if possible). So I wouldn't be completely discouraged.
The first thing to do is remove the battery, which you did. The next task is to dry it completely as quickly as possible, which is not always easy. Silica helps but is insufficient. Normally, a hairdryer was used at minimum power and, when possible, the lower and upper covers were removed to allow air to circulate better. The aim is to completely dry the interior. What has been affected by contact with water, such as LCD panels, for example, and the functioning of which depends on them, will probably only be recoverable with replacement. As for the remaining electronic contacts, they usually resist better than our fears, as long as everything is kept dry.
    Good luck

  3. "maybe because we subconsciously rate photos that we can better relate to ?"

I think this has a great influence. How many pictures we see that we pass without opening? And which ones are opened? Normally we open the most interesting to us at first sight (apart from the PN pros). This has two consequences: a slight uniformity of scores and makes the average scores go up a little from the average arithmetic. Furthermore, it reflects what we are as photographers in general: unfortunately we are not all geniuses but normal people, and the average score is not very high. Of course, there are photographs (and photographers) who stand out and get high scores, but are offset by those with lower scores. The average is just that.

"Yes I know some don't rate and some don't asked to be rated, still I’d be interested what some of the other member’s rated and received averages are"

Well, I do not give importance to scores and I do not rate.

From the numerical point of view, there are other more interesting indicator: the number of visits. However (if we leave aside the absurd scores, that seems are around here and do not deserve much attention) the scores contain some information: they tell the visitor liked more or less the picture, and if the voter is identified (the most important information) allows us to visit is portfolio and try to understand why liked or not liked, and discover his work.

    Best regards, Carlos
