1.
I had over 1800 shots for a Mardi Gras Ball and in the snapshots section there were some slightly blurry shots and also some photos where my flash didn't go off but I uploaded them anyway and I sold several of them! The clients didn't seem to mind the slight imperfections. I think this is a great looking photo and if it were my child, I'd probably buy it.

  2.
Thanks so much for all of your help. John, your background looks perfect to me. that is what i am trying to achieve and Paul, the tutorial was very informative and exactly what i needed. i took the photo in my sunken living room which is terribly small. next time i will set up in a bigger area. Thanks again...very appreciative!

  3.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here? I like the skin tones so I don't think I need to adjust my temperature in the camera, or do I? I am taking a studio portrait on a white backdrop with 2 lights with shoot through umbrellas. The background is not pure white in the photograph, but is in real life. In these examples you can easily see which one was post-processed to get the result I wanted.

  5.
I have tried dogs a few times and am looking forward to more. I would suggest talking to the owner before you start and find out what kind of animal you are dealing with and what makes them excited, behave, etc., etc.
I really like these two portraits. These are dogs that were pretty well behaved. In order to get my dog (without the collar) to put her ears up and sit "at attention", I used the "T" word...Treat.
The family photo with the dog in it - the dog was going crazy running around when they got there. It was 90 degrees and very humid with no breeze. It was really interesting. They were all sweating by the end of the shoot and the dogs tongue is really hangin' out there. I don't know what I would have done had there been a baby AND a dog in the family. yikes!
6.
Just wanted to say that I recently did Santa photos as a marketing strategy for myself and a few other kid-related businesses in my area. It was a totally different experience than the one client at a time I usually have. We got really busy and I didn't have any help (couldn't afford it at the rate I charged) so I wasn't able to spend time with each kid and get the photos just right. However, most people didn't care b/c I think they view assembly line Santa pictures as sub-par and feel it's not a big deal if they don't turn out like a portrait. I personally see it that way, although, I did go above and beyond what the local mall did. We actually had a lot of kids there who had already taken a picture with Santa and came to ours too. One customer took both Santa photos and spent $800 at another studio on nice portraits.

00Rs0T-99681584.jpg.cfe7353755211b6ddccf895cf6a9951b.jpg

  7.
Hi Mike,
I currently own and publish my own local magazine and have about 20 years of experience in advertising. There really isn't any research on how T-Shirt advertising works so it is hard to say. I would say that if this is going to be the only advertising you do, don't do it. You are depending on people to wear the shirt and for someone to notice it for the advertising to work. Think about your personal experience... How many times have you done business with someone b/c you saw it on a T-Shirt. You can use the money more wisely by having postcards printed and asking the schools to give them to students - you can just have them given to seniors too. If the school doesn't do that sort of thing, you could also do a small targeted direct mailing or ask some local businesses to give them out.
On the other hand, if you have other forms of advertising in place and this is extra money, it won't hurt to have your name out there on the shirts as an extra way of putting your name out there that will compliment your other advertising.
Hope that helps!

  8. I am working with Social Services to get a Heart Gallery started in my area and I am looking for any suggestions

    on how to display

the photographs. It is basically a traveling display of children in foster care who are up for adoption. It needs

to be fairly lightweight but sturdy (wouldn't want one falling over on someone in the mall) and break down into

parts if possible. If there is a site out there that sells

things like this, please advise -- but, we are willing to make something ourselves. The photos will be larger

    than 8 x 10 but we haven't

committed to a size yet. Thanks so much for any feedback.
