  1. I started getting quotes from several other insurance companies on Friday. All of them can easily set me up for coverage on the equipment I'm taking to Alaska for between $60 & $90/yr. I called one of the only camera stores left in the Houston area (Houston Camera Exchange) and numerous others around the country including KEH and Adorama. None will do appraisals on amateur equipment. I will be switching insurance company at the end of the month from Liberty Mutual to include my gear, home, 2 autos & a 40' 5th wheel. Most likely a local independent that deals with Progressive as well as several others. The treatment I have gotten from LM has really stunk. I will most likely include all of my photo gear instead of just the gear going to Alaska.
  2. I've been going around with my insurance company which carries home, auto, etc about covering some equipment I'm taking on a trip this summer. They need appraisals of all of it. I have a few sales receipts for the newer stuff. It is not good enough to give them pix, model, serial and fair market replacement pricing from Adorama and EBay. How does one get an appraisal on 14 pieces of gear and 10 small extras carried in one bag when I don't live near any camera stores? Or a better question, how to get it insured?
  3. No Pot of Gold but several years ago I was taking a walk just a block away. Thankfully I had taken a D40 with a 18-200 for Fall flowers. Caught this at just the right time. It was incredibly bright - ISO 400 f/20 1/3200

  4. Cannot believe someone has not answered OP question. Just measured mine. 76mm horizontal x 63mm high, glass dimensions, right to the edge of the black frame that supports the assembly that pivots out. It's only been out since April so maybe folks are not holding them yet.

  5. Well, RodeoJoe, you just made me have a brainstorm! I hunted through my bags of old gear and came up with a Micro-NIKKOR 55mm 1:3.5. I had been using the 45 GN because it worked pretty well using the dx gear, albeit with a tight crop. It worked good with the D700 also. I had completely forgotten that I had the old 3.5 55mm. I've been shooting 35mm since high school (1968-70) and have lots of gear stashed away. Thanks again to all. Again, I'm mostly using this set up to make jpg or RAW digital copies of 20+ year old slides to make photo albums online. Just was not sure if a scanner would work better, faster or cheaper.
  6. I do very little color printing. I use an Epson Stylus Photo R280 which makes really nice color prints. It often clogs up if not used often resulting in a replacement of one of the many cartridges. I'm looking for some online printing service rather than the local CVS which BTW does a nice job. Just wondering about the available online services. Most I've checked out are for mostly banners, flyers and documents.
  7. I just received a 2nd email that has only this wording.........

This email was infected with a virus: 'Virus/JS/Downloader'.

The content of this message has been removed for your protection.

I had to find an old hdd to discover when it was that I joined photo.net. It was Nov. 26, 2007. For whatever reason, I've had no activity on the forum. I may have been looking for some Nikon help on a D3. My email address was active but I had no record of the password. No mention in any of 3 password books! I quickly had it reset.

  8. Let me clarify the two images. The names of the files are _DSC0132.NEF (the original from D70 - 6,444,470 bytes) and _DSC0132a.nef (an edited image (color and highlights) - 9,886,967 bytes +33.5MB temporary cache and a small orange {lightning bolt} in info screen at top of image??). And can anyone tell me why the 33 meg cache and the huge memory requirement (70meg no image, 323 meg original NEF only, and 428 both) of NX compared to Photoshop 6 (36 meg no image, 86 meg original, 90 edited image).
  9. Opening two NEF images that are similar but different names and switching back

and forth between them causes NX to lock when attempting to close them. I have

to use Windows Task Manager to quit - NX using 480 megs memory with both images

open, 50% cpu when idle (spiking to 100%). Photoshop 6.0 uses ~100megs with same

images open. I get the "hour glass" for many minutes until I'm finally convinced

that NX has locked. I then use Windows Task Manager to quit NX. The computer is

    less than

one year old (Gateway GM5260 core 2 Duo 2gig ram GeForce 7300Le 256meg and I use

the following for image browsing and editing....... without problems......

    Picasa 2

    AIP4Win V2

    Irfanview

    Registax 4.1

    Adobe Photoshop 6.0

    ViewPrint Pro 32

    Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

    Nikon View
