I like the camera but I cannot see the advantages of a dedicated ISO dial. I leave my ISO on auto with an upper limit set. If I ever need to change it, most cameras have a dedicated button.
I agree with Sanford's comment, I typically leave the ISO on 100 or auto, I don't see the big deal of having this on the body taking up real estate space.
Otherwise, this is a great camera based on the specs released today.

  2.
Hello Group,

I thought I would add this request to the forum asking those who have purchase the Olympus OMD EM1 for their feedback on what they like, and don’t like.

Based on the large number of reviews, and, the numerous cameras of the year awards, it seem to be an excellent product with many advanced features.

Coming from the Nikon world, the 4/3 camera seem to have improved in product and image quality, and, I like small format, not having to carrier a large amount of weight with traditional DSLR’s.

From what I can see, the only disadvantage is the long exposure issue with added noise compared to the EM5. However, with NR on, it seems to take care of this. With the dark frame subtraction, it seems to clear this up. Shooting fireworks, and other quick action long exposures, will cause issued trying to take frame after frame, and, will need to waiting for the subtraction to do its job before taking the next image.

I think the positives outweigh the one negative, and, the camera is a leading product in mirror less technology. I hope 4/3 lenses are here to stay.

Any feedback, good or bad would be appreciated.

I would be looking to add the 12-40 Pro lenses, curious on how it performs in low light conditions.
Thanks

  3.
Hello Group,
I was thinking of upgrading an old D80, which I still think is a good camera, and adding to my collecting a FX model since my skills have increase over the years. I think the D800 is an over kill for me with the pixel count, more cards, more computer processing, etc., and, I’m looking at the D600.
I notice some sales for the D700 new from credibly vendors ranging from $800-890 UDS.
At the price of the D700 vs. the newer capabilities of the D600 – what would you advise to do?
Buying the D700 and taking the cost saving by adding some good glass interests me.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

  4.
Looking for some help.

I have this lenses attached to a Nikon D80, and the maximum F-stop I can get to is F22. For some reason I can't get to F36. I tried manual mode, and aperture mode, no luck.
I tried resetting the camera, and I still have the same issue. Otherwise, the lense works fine.
Any thought what might be going on?

Thanks in advance.
5.
With all the new technology in the market, I thought I would post this questions for feedback from the user community.
I will be looking to purchase a new tripod. My use will be primarily for landscape, and macro. The tripod needs to support a Nikon D80, and the D300. My heaviest lens is a Nikon 105mm macro. I would like a product that I can expand the legs to get low to the ground, and yet, flexible and all angles, and, something that will hold up in all weather conditions, IE water, snow, etc.
I've had some suggestions from the Gitzo Explorer GT2541EX Explorer Tripod Legs, with the Gitzo GH1780QR Quick Release Tripod Head (Ballhead), to the Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Tripod Legs and Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Quick Release Tripod Head (Ballhead).
I know the Gitzo's are very expense, and I am willing to pay a premium for a better product. Not sure if I want to pay Gitzo prices. I plan that this will be my last time buy for a tripod. I would rather invest in glass.
I'm sure there are many other good products, and, I look forward to hearing your response and suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Tom

Based on the report the Nikon provided that my flash failed due to a battery leakage, I called Duracell, and provided them with the report, and the bar code information from the Duracell package. I received the repair check three weeks later. Goto www.duracell.com and find the toll free number under 'contact us'.
I hope this helps, if you need more information, let me know.
7.
UPDATE: First of, Thanks for everyone's help and feedback regarding my SB-600 issue.
Nikon would not repair the flash because of the claim they make about the battery leakage not covered under warranty.
The good news, I call Duracell today, and without question, they are picking up the repair cost to fix the flash.
Regards,
Tom

  8.
I am looking to purchase a new lens for landscape photography. I have been a loyal Nikon user who purchases Nikon products because of their solid performance and exception technology.r technology.

The two lenses that I am considering are the Nikon 12-24MM, which is the one I am favoring, or, the Nikon 10-24MM.

I’m interested in the groups perceptive on these lenses, and some feedback on which one you would consider. I am open to all suggestions.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Tom

Nikon 12-24mm f/4G ED IF Autofocus DX Nikkor Zoom Lens - $992. USD

Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR - $830. USD

  9.
No, I didn't send the batteries in with the repair, nor did I see any signs of a leak.
Eric - I like your idea, and will contact Duracell - the batteries were brand new out of the package.
I'm sure I will get stuck paying for the repair, what's you thought of getting it repaired vs a new unit?

I thought I would post this problem I am currently having with my Nikon SB-600 speed light, and, get some feedback from the group.

First of all, I am a very happy Nikon user, and this is my first issue with any of their products.

Here’s my problem:

I purchased a SB-600 flash back in August 2009 from Adorama, and, used it for about 400 flashes. The flash required new batteries, so, I replaced them with a fresh Duracell set. After using the flash for about 30 pictures, it basically stopped working.

I sent the flash into Nikon for repair, and was told the batteries leak, causing the flash to stop working. Nikon indicated with their estimate, that the flash is not covered under warranty for battery acid leaks, and that the repair cost will be about $160.

I plan to call Nikon after the holiday’s, and see if I can negotiate a better price, or, if I can try to convince them to reconsider, and fix the flash under warranty.

If I have to pay the $160 price, I’m not sure if I feel confident getting this unit repaired, versus, getting a new one for $219, or, looking at other flash options.

Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

I will be upgrading my DSLR in the next few months, and, many of the mid to high ends products now come with the HD video technology. I am curious to get feedback from the group if people are truly using and taking advantage of this technology.

I am still on the fence if I would use video; still I love to take photographs. Maybe my position will change over time.

Are you using HD video with your camera?
