Why is the Nikkor AF-S 70-300 f/4-5.6 G not compatible with the D40? ( This is as per our local Nikon dealer). Please visit the URL: http://www.jjmehta.com/pricelist/dslr_lenses_pricing.htm

I got my dad's F1 ( Sr. No. 510147) , 35mm / F2 & 200 mm F/4 which has been
unused for the last 18 years My querries are as under:
1) what could be the manufacturing year of the above sr. no. ?
2) The lenses are infected by fungus on the inside. can it be cleaned 100%. If not
can the spots be seen on the film,
3) what battery is to be used?
4) are any manuals available.
5) the mirror does not fall back to its original place & does so only after I load the
next frame. But the shutter seems to work properly. do i need to replace it.
6) what could be the value of the above gear in USD.
thanks & cheers,

I have a canon S3IS which i got in Nov'07. I have shot about 5800 shots. I was
working fine until recently. Today I was reviewing some photos when it suddenly
shut down. The batteries were purchased alongwith the cam & as such are
relatively new, Also the above happens during reviewing the shots ( when I am
using the zoon in & zoom out button)& not during clicking. I have removed the
batteries & interchanged & out them again but with no great results. The batteries
are fully charged & I charge them quite regularly .
I got the cam from the grey market & am worrying a lot since I recently got a 400D
also from the grey, Can anybody help?

Can the Sigma 17-70mm F/2.8-4.5 (Canon Mount ) be mounted on the pentax DSLRs?
I have heard that they can be without any modification. Is it true? How is the
performance of the lens on a Canon 400D body?
Thanks

Thank you everyone for all the answers.
Canon sells the 400D in India with the kit lens for 825 USD whereas it is available in the grey market for 650 USD - i.e a differnce of around 175 USD. Should I head for the grey market ? I will not get the warranty, but does anyone need it for the first two years?
Also I wish to invest more in the lens than the body . Considering this what should be my first lenses? I have short listed the 50 mm / 1.8, sigma 17-70, 28-105 F 3.5-4.5, 85 f1.8 etc.

I am planning to purchase my first DSLR & am confused whether it should be Canon
or Nikon. I have shorlisted the rebel XTI & the nikon D80? I will be using the
camera for general photography. Also what should be my first lens with either of
the bodies?

Buy the Canon S3IS . It has a super macro & a 12 x optical zoom as well. Use it for about 6 months to 12 months & then buy a Canon EOS 5D

I have a Canon F1 ( Flim-SLR 1971-1972) in good working condition. I have the
following querries.
1) Does canon manufacture digital back for the F1? If not canon is there
someone that canon recommends / canon users recommend?
2) Can the F1 lenses be used on the newer EOS 350D or EOS400D? Any
modifications / adapters required?
3) Is it worth retaining the F1?

I got the 70-300 VR lens for my D40 today. The lens seems to be very good & I expect to take some nice shots
tommorrow morning. Only one thing that's bothering me: the moment I removed my 50 mm F/1.8 mm lens &
mounted the 70-300 it refused to autofocus. I went through all the setting but no result. Then I removed the 70-300
mm & mounted the 18-55 which again refused to autofocus. I then re-set my D40 & mounted the 70-300 & it was
working fine with the AF. What could be the reason ? The dealer told me that it may be due to the reason that a lot
of custom functions were selected . Is it true? Is my camera OK? Thanks for all the help. Cheers.
