  1. I took a picture in their office itself when I got the camera back. I saw the dust in that picture itself when I copied them to the PC. Then I shot some test shots (narrow aperture, pointing skywards) and the dust was clearly visible.

The interesting part is that the dust is not going off even with the built in sensor cleaning function.

  2. Yesterday evening I got my camera back from Canon, I had given it to them for

    sensor cleaning.

Now, after clicking some test shots I see more dust on the sensor. The previous

dust spots have gone, these are newer ones. I had clicked a test shot in their

office itself. And even in that picture, I can see lots of dust. Also, there is

something in the form of a thick line which can be seen in the pictures.

I am going to them again tomorrow as they are closed on Sundays. What do you

guys think they will say ?

Is the sensor damaged ? I am a very nervous man at the moment. Please help me out...

  3. Hello

I am planning to get the sensor of my 400D cleaned from a Canon Service Center.

Apart from that, I have heard a lot of people saying that they got their

cameras/lenses 'caliberated'. I have no idea what it means.

Can anyone please explain it to me ? And is it worth getting that caliberation

    done ?

    Regards,

  4. Hello,

Either the 70-200 f/2.8L IS or the 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS would be my first

telephoto for my 400D. I mainly shoot airplanes/dogs/birds. I would love the

bokeh the 2.8 would provide, whereas on the other hand I would love to have the

longer reach of the 100-400. The drawbacks which matter to me are the shorter

focal length of the 70-200 and the dust problems with the 100-400.

I am totally confused. :( If the dust isnt a big problem with the 100-400, I

will go ahead with the it. (I live in India, lots of dust around).

What would you guys recommend ?

    Regards,

    Aalok

  5. Oh yes, dust can enter the body while focusing. I never thought about this factor. Thanks for pointing it out.

Well, its my first encounter with sensor cleaning. Hence, you may find me a bit nervous :(

I am looking forward to buying the 17-40L F/4. This lens is said to be weather proof.

  6. Hello,

I use the 400D with the 50mm f/1.8 lens and I also have the stock lens.

Last week, I had switched to the 18-55mm for a couple of shots. There wasnt any

dust on the sensor then. I replaced the lens with the 50mm f1.8 after those

    pictures were taken.

Today, I shot with the same 50mm at the airport and now that I have copied the

images to the PC, I see 3 prominent dust spots in each and every picture. I

always turn the camera off once in a while while shooting just to induce sensor

cleaning. I did the same today, but the dust spots are the same in each picture.

Though I hardly change lenses, I get dust spots each and every time I shoot

with the 400D. What may be the reason ?

And now that the dust on the sensor is not being removed by the built in sensor

cleaning, should I take it to a camera shop to get it cleaned ? Or just blow

some air into it and check ?

    Cheers from India,

  7. Hello

I recently posted a question about getting a lens for a wedding. After

considering the views of the photographers here, I dropped the idea of buying a

lens and flash just for the wedding. (I am not a professional)

Now, I need a lens for general landscapes and nature. I have a 400D with the

stock lens and a 50 mm f/1.8 prime. The former is far from sharp and the latter

is as sharp as it gets, but not wide enough.

So which is the lens that I shall consider buying ? The budget would be around

    700-750$.

  8. Thank you all for your response.

Now, I think I ll probably drop the idea of buying the lens or the flash just for the wedding. Let the pro do it all.

About the B/W thing, I actually like the idea. I ll do that. Will it be done good with the existing apparatus ? I dont want anything spectacular, but it always feels good to have captured something yourself at such an event.

    Aalok

  9. Thankyou all for your response. I would definately give him his space and wont intervene even a bit.

So which lens shall I consider buying ? I would be using it in the future as a wide angle lens for landscapes/nature etc. I want it to be a general purpose lens in the future.
