1.
Lightroom 4 forward I have taken too. I gave Lightroom 3 a go while still using ViewNX/NX2 and other third party archiving tools to manage the mass of data from my shutter happy hands. I was never satisfied with the management of my workflow.
Lightroom 4 was a breath of fresh air. You can adjust/edit images in RAW without compromising the original file. If it needs more work you export the basics (RAW+Lens adjustments+colour & tonal balances) in your preferred format. No more duplication of RAW images (as was with View NX/NX2)
I recently took time to weed out all the duplication and buckshee JPG's etc. from my master archive (having backed the whole thing up to an external HDD). I've managed to create a lot of disc space on my working Data drive. The Sync functions in the Library mode sorted out all the gaps and a few additions.
Editing images, easy to follow controls. Degree of adjustment with each is good.
Exporting, this is where lightroom still annoys me a little. it would be great if you could generate multiple instances of the same file at different sizes/resolutions. A batch export function would also be great, leave the software to churn out the final output while you go do something else. (I've not explored the Export presets or as Catalog functions yet but these may offer a solution)
Reading your original post Dave, it strikes me that like myself you have a way of working you are happy with. For a long while Lightroom sat beside Viewnx2 when it came to editing/processing. Then I gave up to the complete workflow solution Lightroom offers. It's taken some learning and I have much still to get to grips with withing LR but overall it's been worth it. Sometimes you just have to give in and make the change. My folder structure is much the same as when using the old method. I've found no major issues in exporting individual files, if anything it has made me more deliberate in what I do.

So as a result of LR I have less software on my machine, Less Data and it's made me focus more on what I'm doing.

Oh and it's a great archiving tool with the ratings and Keyword functions, though using it on an established archive means it has major gaps and will take (a long) time to populate. As above I cannot see me going to any other solution so it's become a long term project which will yield results as I continually stumble across images that I forgot I had.

 6.
Good Evening and Happy Nikon Wednesday, another great set of shots.
I promised Green Heron and I eventually got it! 8.
Well, another week of impressive shots.
Matt, nice truck!
Bob, great shot.
Rick, fantastic, right place right time!
John Rowsell, he’s grown into a lovely dog, nice shots.
Peter, WHOA!
Lorne, nice crisp shot.
Bill, looks like the Cat’s been having some Wild seed, that expression!
Roberta Davidson, There are brown Pelicans here, still to get a good shot, they come around late evening, light is falling of something terrible by then.
Emilio Gutierrez, creative, I like!
Jeannean, think you just set the benchmark for the Seasons Black necked Stilt photo's. There are some on a Pond here, will need to keep an eye on.
Sure as Fate I get a decent shot to use and it's the hot favourite for the week. So here's another Osprey. I'll try for the Green Heron next week?
This Osprey has become a regular around the barge, using the Mooring lines as Perch, Roost, Observation point & Dinner Table. Got every shot except Hunting! (Even some shaky Video...aren't DSLR's wonderful bits of kit?)
9.
WOW! Great shots all round!
Not posted in a while...but been busy packed the D5100 this trip and not regretted it. Never thought I'd take an Osprey's presence for granted...this guy is a regular visitor to our mooring lines.
(Nikon D5100 (Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3G) 500mm: f/6.3 @ 1/500s: ISO 100)

00bQBm-523807584.JPG.8a2e83105b799f038163b2e37de8b518.JPG

 10.
Great shots guys, Hi Lill good to see some of your stuff, looks like a great place!
Hopefully I'll get something posted next week. These were a welcome flick over a cup of tea end of shift! Thank you...made my day.

 11.
Belated Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays...

Back on the Barge, sitting in the Caribbean. the only Torment is my shift is 12hrs and pretty much swallows all the daylight hours, so much to shoot here. I grab 5 min here & there only bonus is the light is generally good and there is no end of subject matter, just timing and a bit of luck...no change there!

The caught my eye; Lorne (Squirrel), Bill, Patrick (geese), Markku (Another of Mother natures great effects). John & Chris dogs always deliver! Like 'em.

Here's a lucky timing shot...
D80 (70-300mm f/4-5.6G) @ 300mm, f/8 @ 1/400s, ISO 200

00bAZ9-510277584.JPG.53d4df9413a3c5b5b254214ae7a423a9.JPG

 12.
Great shots. This week has me coming back and going over them time and again...distracting me from picking one or so of my own!
Looks like a Bird fest brewing...so I'll chuck in one or two from the D80. Really impressed with this camera, much more user friendly than I had dared hope.
D80 (50-500mm f/4-6.3G) 320mm f/8 @ 1/50s ISO 200

00b6Bk-507123684.JPG.9f6f7e7aeaee11821dc74723255a9775.JPG

 13.
Matt, Nothing beats a Pup who knows how to pose! Great shot of a great Dog. Plenty more great shots this week. I've had to delve into the archive, too much life going on and not enough time to get busy with the camera. Here's The Barge, home from home.

D40X (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G) 38mm f/8@1/2500s ISO 400

00b4fX-506271584.JPG.32a2f5d7fdc69072c1d1a00e4ec0c4a7.JPG

 14.
Hi,
Yet again a great set of images this week. I've finally got out and started using my new D5100. Treated myself to a D80 second hand too plus a couple new (to me) lenses...so no excuses for not getting a bit more creative...feel free to pull me up if you feel I'm slacking!
For now a return to one of my favourite subjects...Swans!
D5100 (50-500mm f/4-6.3G) 500mm, f/8@1/500s, ISO 250

00b3Il-505325584.JPG.76979a3998c4d02b865dddc465fa0c29.JPG

 15.
Apologies Nikon. I've somehow got to a more current page?? with direct purchasing of a key etc. Though my comments stand;
Why does it cost as much in Pounds as it does in Dollars for exactly the same product?
Amazon quote the CaptureNX 2 software at $134.95 the key on the Nikon UK website is £138.25 (Amazon price £85.41 based on a conversion £-$ of 1.58) £52 odd difference in price for exactly the same product.

 16.
I read this thread with interest. I'm looking to buy a copy of Capture NX2 having trialed it and liked it.

Curiously imagemixer is listed on the Amazon.co.uk site as an alternative retailer. Product lists as not available on the Amazon.co.uk site but lists as available on Amazon.com.
Imagemixer also uses these addresses:
www.imixermedia.com/
www.imagemixer.net/
Note: www.imixermedia.net/ is no longer valid. Definitely cause for concern.

I'm pleased to see that you can buy direct through the Nikon.co.uk website ensuring genuine copy, relevant regional distribution and reliable application of updates.

However Nikon please note I'll be holding off buying your product until you resolve the currency conversion issue:

nikonusa.com store, is $179.95 http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikonusa/en_US/pd/ThemeID.18145600/productID.214622500
nikon.co.uk store, is £176.99 http://store.nikon.co.uk/software/capture-nx-2---full-version---retail-box/VSA590EA/details#.UJT5dbExpPM
At a current exchange of approximately 1.58 $ to £ the price should closer too £115.00 in the UK. We get what? exactly for the extra £63.10 paid? Yes that's right nothing! Good old rip off Britain even Nikon are in on the act!

Also having downloaded the trial, all I need is the key, why do I have to pay for a boxed product?
(Note: even on lenses between the two stores (USA & UK) there is a disparity between prices and exchange rate, UK is more expensive approx' 30%)

En-maddened and infuriated Lover of Nikon gear!
