1.
If we decide that it is a good idea, then we have to find a sponsor. And we have to establish a group or use the board that manage the site to make a collection. And we have to find the right galleries.
In my opinion we have to keep the world perspective. One of the great things of this site is that it is cross cultural. And we ought keep it that way. The cross cultural perspective could be the brand of the world exhibition.
One model could be to select four collections and exhibit them four different places in the world, and then make them circulate.
How do we contact the board of this site ?
2.
I have shot thousands of pictures with FUJI Velvia film with very good result. The cameras I used were M6 and M7. I have traveled with those cameras. They work very well under hard conditions. The cameras are neet and handy. It was a hard decision to go digital.
Many of my images are landscape photos. The greater part of my images from American National Parks is taken with an old M6. I never had the feeling that my cameras was the limit to what I could do.
The analog M cameras are smal, functional and well designed. Go for it.
3.
I have the same problem as you. But I am not a fine art photografer, I just take pictures for fun. I use Leica M8 and some lenses. It is all small and handy and heavy. I am very happy with functionality and the quality I can work with, if I am lucky. But many times I have seen very good images, without having my gear with me. After long consideration I bought a Leica d-lux 4.
The D-lux4 is quite another standard than the M serie. I had hours of disappointment. But now I am quite happy with it. It is small and handy, it has a lense that is fast and not so bad. The computer works very well. Many times i have been surprised, hvad the small camera can do in low light. But, but: it is not always sharp in the corners, it does not always have straight lines in the corners, and it is not as sublime as the M, getting all the details in the sky or in the horizon.
But in contrast to the M8 with all the right lenses, it is always close, when I need it.
4.
Hi James
The market will soon be floated with inexpensive M8 cameras, because many Leica users will buy the new M9 and sell their old M8. I am M8 user, and I am very happy with that. You can buy second hand lenses of very high quality and about 1/3 of the price. The second hand market is very big. So just wait some months.
I use my M8 at night with a 50 mm f 1,4 at night or even a 28 mm f 2. That does not make me a good photografer. But it works, and it gives me a lot of fun.
5.
I have a flashgun for my M8. But I hardly ever use it. The camera is small and handy, and the handiness goes away, when you ad a flash. The lenses are so good even at f. 2 or 1,4, that very often you can do without a flash. And last, the flash kills the true light of the motive.
6.
Hi Zhibo
I have used a 90/2.8 (not asph). It is a great lens, but it is so long, that portraits became flat. I sold it and bought a 75/2.0 asph. I love that lens, it is so short that portraits gets a little perspective. And it is handy.
I don't think I have used its qualities to the limit and I am not an expert, but as far as I can se the resolution is extremely good. I have taken a lot of bw pictures with it, and it has a very fine grey scale.
