1.
My interest in the Nikon is that its sold with the two lenses and I like using Nikon's Capture NX software for post, but my mind is not locked into Nikon.
And yes .. don't want to haul around my Nikon lenses anymore either!
Sidebar: I worry about shutter lag issues too

  2.
Thanks for the great information everyone.

Andy - I use a Nikon D90, Nikon D7000, and a Canon S90 ..
I am tired of carrying the "big" stuff around and have been using the Canon S90 a lot. f2 with the wide lens is really nice - but shutter lag make it suck for people shots.
Charles and Sanford .. I have heard so many good things about the NEX-6 that it's high on my list.

I am just at the point that I want a smaller lighter camera ...

  3.
As far as a wide or fish eye is concerned - I strongly suggest a 14mm instead of the 10mm. I have and love both - but you will get a LOT of use from the 14mm. It's an amazing lens and well worth the high price. The 10mm you will use infrequently and even then you have to be "feeling it" when you shoot with it.

Thanks everyone for the replies, ideas and discussion. I appreciate your time. I may possibly have found a $13 app that does what we want. Will be testing it soon. It is here

Here are some of my replies to your posts:

John Deerfield:
Good idea, but I wonder if they make dual layer gold dvd's. Also some folders I have are much larger than 6gig - I still would have the issue of manually breaking them into smaller folders.

Geoff Sobering:
I am pretty sure the "RecordNow" backup uses data compression...as does Roxio. No native file formats.

HalB:
My mention of 6 gig was just an example. I have folders mush larger - depending on how many photos I shot for that month.

Robert Johnston:
I tried several versions of Roxio and each one used data compression. I am looking for native files only. My thinking is that in 50 years when someone finds these Gold DVD's they will still be able to view the images on them without trying to find a version of Roxio that will uncompress them.

Gary Peck:
What you describe is exactly what I want to do. I just do not want to manually move thousands of files into folders tthat will fit on DVD's.

Edward Ingold:
Are you saying Nero for Win7 DOES do what I want??
The 6GB was just an example. I have MUCH more than that in RAW images. MUCH MUCH more

I have a folder called 2009-07 full of sub-folders and images. 2009-07 totals 6 gig.
I want to issue a command where I can burn 2009-07 to DVDs.
I want to put in blank DVD, have files copied to it then another DVD and another DVD until all the files in 2009-07 are burned.
I do not want to use file compression - I want all files in native Windows format, Jusr raw files .. that's it.
I cannot find ANY cd/dvd burning software that will do this.
Ideas? Suggestions?
thanks,
