  1. Very nice composition.  17-40 is my favorite lens, but sometimes I overuse it.  Just wondering if you'd thought about putting on your 70-200 to compress the distance and make the church appear larger in the picture.

There were a few comments about over saturation. If you look at George Caleb Binghams work you notice that he used a bit of oversaturation in his paintings for great effect. In my mind you have a great picture. If I had taken it there would be a matted, framed, 16x20 hanging on my wall and I am sure that my my very critical friends, when they saw it, would just say, "Wow"!

  2. I'm just an echo of all the good things other folks have already stated about this pic. In photography contests the judges almost always pick a picture of interest over all those beautiful, but static, flower and landscape scenes. If the contest judges don't select this as the winner then certainly it will get the peoples choice award. Congrats on the pic.

  3. Beautiful, rich colors.  Great subject.  However the door's shutters are a key componet of the composition and should not have been cropped as they both compliment and contrast the lighter colored doors and the woman behind the glass.  Still, its a keeper.

  4. For those that wanted to see complete trees with some separation from the pictures border you'll need to advance to Tim's "Stranger in a Strange Land".

The solitary figure, head bent, shoulders stooped makes this one evocative. Is the sun going up or going down on his life? You'll never know.

This is my pick. If I took this picture I would print a 13x19 and frame it and hang it on my wall. Way to go, Tim!

  5. This is not the picture for those seeking something evocative as they would prefer a black and white of starving children. This is one of those beautiful flowing water scenes. I'm an old English major and I see white, the symbol of purity, and green, the symbol of life. The simplicity of this picture lends it elegance. Let's move the discussion onto what color mat and frame moulding would you select for this keeper.

I love these kind of pictures. Water the symbol of purity, green the symbol of life. Someone already commented about overexposure at the top that keep this one from being a 10. The scene doesn't lend itself to using a split or graduated ND filer. Reduce the EV's and you loose the rocks to the left, Increase the EV's and you loose the color saturation. I like it and you should be proud you took it.
