She was a bit nervous at first, and was piquing from behind a deck

chair on her patio. My first picture during my first professional

photoshoot. Thanks in advance for any and all comments!

  1. Thank you, Terry, Daniel and Gautam!

Gautam, this is digital with very minimal work done in photoshop Lightroom. Specifically, a slight increase in color temperature, a slight increase in exposure (I have a tendency to underexpose so as not to blow out highlights), and a small increase in black clipping.

I hadn't actually noticed the plant until you folks said something about it. I can probably fix that in Photoshop, but one question I had for Daniel specifically, how would you have altered the composition of the shot? I am assuming that by straight forward you mean "plain" or "boring" so I'm looking for suggestions on how to fix that.

Thanks again, for all of your input!

  2. My first photo for critique on P.N. I'm relatively new to the site,

but I like the community a lot, and wanted to get some feedback on my

work. This photo was taken just before sunset Sunday, September 30th.

This is a beautiful example of black and white portraiture. The only thing I didn't care for was the thin stream of smoke, as that was really distracting.

On the other hand, it does create a unique point of interest. Overall, a great shot.

    Passing Place

Picturesque is appropriate for this particular image. I think part of what makes you think the area is bleak, is the black and white photography. Any area without much contrast light-to-dark in B&W will feel bleak. The fact that you included the fun sign helps make this image more interesting, and gives some insight into the roadway that you've chosen as a subject.

I like this image a lot!

A cute picture, the only suggestion I would have, would be to lighten the image further before applying your Sepia filter. Perhaps applying a Red Filter, desaturating the image, then applying your Sepia over that would achieve an image with a bit more definition.

Overall composition is excellent, though! Nice work!

    OLD BARN

    A top notch image.

I love the striking sunlight. The barn and vehicle appear dilapidated, and the golden sunlight creates a correlation of the sun setting, not just for the day, but forever on this lonely scene.

Serene, and peaceful. I like it a lot.

  3. The detail is incredible. At first, I was taken aback by the amount of image that was out of focus. To be honest, it's off-putting at first, but given a few more seconds, it's striking just how much the eye stands out and draws you in. An excellent image, in my opinion.
