I focused on the closest eye and wanted the shallow DOF to exaggerate the Christmas lights. With her you cannot get her to look at the camera or pose so the level of difficulty is raised. So I had to manually focus the lens at f1.9 quickly to capture this, as there was no posing to compose it and retry. This was why I posted about her autism. I can only imagine what I could have produced if I get her to pose. Thank you for your kind words and constructive criticism, it is appreciated.

This was taken at Franklin Park Zoo in Boston with a Tokina 500mm mirror
lens. The lighting it natural and editing it minimal with Canon's Digital
Photo Professional. The shadows are from the original lighting. The lion's
body was in the shade, but poking his head out lighting his face.

Thank you!
The day I was there a People Magazine photographer was there taking pictures for an article on zoos. He has access with a ladder, but was there midday. I wonder what he got because I was there at the same time and the lighting was harsh because of sunny day with few clouds. I went back to the enclosure about 4pm and the light was wonderful. This was taken with a vintage, manual, preset lens (Soligor 350mm f5.6 - wonderful lens.

I starting playing around with extension tubes on an old 55mm f1.4
lens made by Tomioka wide open for that dreamy look. Any comments
would be appreciated. I really like the glow it creates with the bokeh.
Thank you - Dennis

Nikkor-N 35mm f1.4 lens wide open, out of focus for soft focus and bokeh.
Thoughts?

Taken at Franklin Park Zoo 2/2/08 in Boston, Massachusetts. Manually
focused with a vintage Soligor 350mm f5.6 preset lens in Pentax M42
screw mount on a tripod. Photoshop to blur out the background (shot
through chain link fence so the bokeh showed a very slight chain link
pattern). First time I have done editing with Photoshop Elements (and
I have a trackball - hard to do - need to get a tablet).
Enjoy and any critiques welcome!

Thank you - I really liked the cute pink child with pink umbrella in a gray and rainy area. I just happened to capture it. It was kind of artsy with a sort of Morton Salt girl kind of look to me.

Please critique this photo - I am trying to improve. Thank you!

Shot handheld at night - just really liked the lighting it had as well
as the late dusk sky.

Nice macro! Great focus and nicely lit!
It is an ambush bug - it sits still waiting for a bug to come to a flower and uses it front legs (like a mantis) to grab onto the bug, then it has a straw like extension that sucks the insides out. Here is one I found in our garden:
