I did some test scans last night using vuescan to TIFFs(48bit).
The result was a lovely 60mb tiff.
I then imported these tiffs into lightroom and converted them to DNG. Resulting
in a 16mb DNG.
my question is, am I losing any data by doing this, or is the DNG just a lot
more efficient?

I've got a bunch of old negatives (35mm) that I want to scan wiuth vuescan and
turn into DNGs, which I'll then import into Lightroom so I can manage them along
with the rest of my images.
I currently have 2 scanners;
A Canon 9900f with film adapters
An Acer Scanwit 2720s
The Canon gives me an option of 3200dpi and the Acer 2700dpi
The Canon also takes 4 strips at a time rather than the 1 of the acer.
I have an funny feeling the the Acer will actually give a better scan even
though it has a lower DPI.
What do you think ?

Hi,
I'm looking at buying an 18-200VR for my d70s to replace the 18-70 and 55-200VR
I already have.
I am wondering if i should hang on the old lenses as backups or should I just
trade them in ?
PS. Also if I buy lens while on holiday in the US and then take it back to
Australia does that then get considered a grey import by nikon or will they
honour the warranty because i bought an American lens in America ?
Cheers,
Stuart
50mm lens - how does it help?

In theory the 50mm prime stopped down 2 stops will be sharper than the zoom, as lenses are never at their best wide open.
Being a prime it is also less likely to show chromatic or other aberrations. Ans yes i know they can be corrected in S/W but it's never as good as a clean initial image.
