This is the exit from the "dreaded" casemate #5 at Old Fort Mifflin

in Philadelphia which is notoriously "haunted." The beautiful sunny

day poured in as the only real light to the underground barracks. It

was warm outside that day but I could see my breath inside the

casemate... that combined with a strong uneasy feeling, the light at

the opening of the tunnel was very welcome. I hope the b&w along with

the flood of light captures the cold dread feeling inside and the

sense of escape to the world outside.

Coldest day of last year, the last snow, walking through the park

shivering, one of the last shots I took before the camera quit from

the cold... at least the people there prior to me had the good idea

to take an atv...

This is my friend Matt Green, he is a singer-songwriter in

Philadelphia. Last year he released his second independent CD

called "Of My Tribe" and he asked me to take the pictures for the CD

case. He wanted something kind of neutral and "blank" so we hit

Newlin Grist Mill Park in Glen Mills, PA the day after the last big

snow in February 2007. We had some great fun slippng and sliding on

the ice taking these pics while downing some hot Wawa coffee... and

got some wonderful shots -- kind of U2 "New Year's Day" -esque I

guess -- but ALL Matthew Green. This was my favorite and I thought it

would make a great CD cover, he chose another from the same "session"

but uses many of the shots in his promotional literature.
