1.
My D700 has had the same situation happen..sand and scratches. I took the camera in for sensor cleaning and the tech recommended that remove the cover as he sees most scratches caused by the cover than not. I took a course on how to destroy things so I will leave the cover on for the big bang theory.. . I am using my camera hard and enjoying it anyway. I am not waxing and washing so someday when I sell it it will be pristine. I take care of my equipment, and clean behind it every so often. That's all one can do.

  2.
Great shots Marc McCoy and Adam Zyto ! My favs for the week.
Here is my shot..I took this in the local Saxby's coffee shop with an old 105mm manual focus lens converted to AI and put on my D700. An artist sketching at the table next to me.

00WRuc-243679584.jpg.1e6da4d98c6bf5f80f951854c0ab5347.jpg

  3.
Hello folks
Some amazing photographs this week. My submission was taken this past week at Cape May where the bay meets the ocean. Three fisherman relaxing and enjoying the solitude. It was a foggy afternoon..no polarizer with me....
Nikon D700, 70-200mm 2.8 VRll shot at 200mm, 2.8, 1/2000 sec, low iso

00WEdb-236475584.jpg.09c7338587cbd5e079f8fd4f0a840b38.jpg

  4.
Buy the D700 now. I have it. I love it. You can shoot NOW. The D700x will be at full retail for a number of months, and then that will drop in price. The D700 was $2,699.00 for a long time before it went down approx $300.00. There will always be a bigger, better model coming along. The lenses are what is most critical, not the body. If you are looking for a body to wash the dishes and cook you dinner, than wait....for a very long time. If you want a body to reflect your skills, then get the D700 now..and make sure you buy top of the line lenses. If you fall in love with the D700x at a later point, than sell your alrready discounted D700 for a D700x discounted after the maddening rush. It might cost you a little but in the mean time you are having fun shooting NOW.

00WCEG-235325584.jpg.f7c763d78e9b4be74c6650adda0e814d.jpg

  5.
Walking through my hometown, Doylestown Pa..after a snowstorm..I tried out my Nikon D700 with an AI 25-70 zoom lens, manual focus..50mm, handheld leaning on a post, 1/3 second, aperture priority, F16, iso 3200, some adjustments in CS4..but did not adjust for lens distortion because I did not want to lose the top left traffic light. What I didn't see was the fellow on the second floor apartment above the entrance with a camera on a tripod ready to take a photograph in my direction

00VxqM-227879584.jpg.eb5cc28a84be293989466e094de19139.jpg

  6.
"I'm too scared to actually use them after what i paid for them"
I waxed and washed my 1975 Porsche all the time, kept it in the garage, and had less than 1,000 miles in two years. Then Al Holbert ( the race car driver) said to me "That machine was meant to be driven. Soon afterward, I took it on the Doylestown Pa. bypass just before it opened to the public, went around the barracade and hit the gas to 126 mph..where I governed myself..it could have gone much faster..the engine hummed and purred, and the cockpit was quiet..I left depressions on the steering wheel. Later..Al Holbert showed me great driving techniques..including rounding curves and speeding up for better tire grip. I later raced against newer porsche models and did quite well..as the pollution controls were not on my car. I put 75,000 miles on it..and fondly remember many wonderful moments.
Don't keep the shutter releases low for the next guy.

  7.
I have a D700..and decided to try one of my old prime lenses with it. My 28 mm 2.8 and I had the exact same feeling with it: "Suddenly everything felt just right again" I had a wonderful day of non-pressure shooting..I experimented and played with this lens..a great shot of my sailboat in portrait view got the whole mast, a fine coffee shop taking in the whole landscape of people and activities, fiddling with the settings again. (manual or aperture). Thanks to Nikon I can use my old lenses on a new body . The feeling was like being home again. I have my 25-50 and my 105/2.5 to play with next. They are finally out of the closet!

00V3UL-192545584.jpg.d474295a5bf03d318324d94031254485.jpg

  8.
I recently purchased a D700 and am amazed at the quality and output of the AI lenses I have . It is also a wonderful feeling to add to my useable lens collection. Another bonus is that you are not on total auto pilot and I seem to get great shots. Yesterday, I used my Nikkor 28mm prime 2.8 lens in a coffee shop and took a number of photos at high and low iso's in Aperture setting ( the camera will select the correct shutter speed for you) and was blown away. I love this lens. Don't seem to have any problem with the focus. Enjoy!

  9. Hi James....O.K. ..Amazon now has the Mk3 for $4,000 body only...and the 5DMk2 will sell for $ 2,700 body only

and will be available before the holidays. So, for thirteen hundred smackers can you wait a month? Do you need the

faster burst rate of the Mk3? Could you put that money towards a good lens? Do you need 21 mp vs the 10mp of the

Mk3. Ask yourself what features you need most where you " do not make my living from my camera " Is weight an

important factor? Do a little feature reasearch for both cameras. Go to a reputable retailer and hold the 1DsMk3 in

your hands. Bring a memory card and take a few photos with the camera and bring the card home..check it out. Do

you have photoshop? Plenty of sources to get opinions. There has been discussions about AI focus problems on the

Mk3. Also..consider another 5D if you havent had problems and got great photos with it. Remember..its the

photographer..then the camera that is most important. Wow..too much to think

    about..eh?
00ROo9-85697584.jpg.cd8194d23ebf4a65a19903137022def1.jpg
