1.
Thanks everyone for the responses so far. As Marc and Maira assumed, I took plenty of close ups. However, this location has a lot of meaning to the couple, so I wanted to showcase the landscape.
They will be getting a 12x12 album, so this shot will likely end up cropped similar to John's edit as a spread.
The wedding was a few weeks ago, and I don't remember what led me to shoot this at f2.8 - yes, I should have stopped down. That being said, I find the 17-55 very sharp wide open.

 2.
Firstly, I'd like to thank Nadine, Jeff, and William W for taking the time to judge the competition as well as the comments and feedback they provided. I have to say, first place in this contest came as a real surprise. Although I've been doing this for awhile, I still feel like I have so much to learn, and I draw so much information and inspiration from other pnet users.

This photo was taken just before the bride left her house for the church. Earlier on, Kate was having her makeup done in front of a mirror with a bare bulb lamp providing light. I took some candids and the quality of the bare bulb lighting on her face was beautiful. Once she was dressed and ready, I had her sit back down in front of the mirror, and check herself out one last time before heading out. The series of shots I took in those moments were my favourite of the wedding. I've used bare bulb lighting several times since - sometimes removing lamp shades in hotel rooms, etc.

This shot was taken with a D300, and an 85mm lens. ISO 1000, 1/160 at f2. All processing was done in Lightroom. I felt the sepia toning worked well, as Kate is a true classic beauty - inside and out.

A quote from Kate: "I feel very honoured to be the subject of your winning entry. We absolutely love every picture you took, as do our family and friends. Thank you for capturing our special day so beautifully." Winning the contest felt great, but a comment like that might top it.

 3.
I was just at WPPI in Las Vegas and stopped by the Lumapix booth at the trade show. They said they are in the midst of creating fotofusion for the Mac. Not sure when the release date is, but if you're willing to wait, it's great software.

 4.
Just before the reception we jumped on the couple's rhino to get some photos at a great spot in the woods. Attemped a couple of shots during the bumpy ride. Though far from perfect, I love this one. Totally unstaged, and I can't believe I got one in focus with the couple in the frame (was leaning back as far as I could at the widest angle I could)

00X5X9-269707584.jpg.cbacb977d799452b1ef65956d4731c2a.jpg

 5.
Thanks to all who have commented so far. I agree that this is not your typical engagement shot. The shoot took place in a neighbourhood in downtown Toronto. I live, and do most of my shooting in a small town north of Toronto, so being in a vibrant, urban setting was like eye candy. I wanted to try some edgier shots, as well as the more traditional engagement photos. I find when I shoot 'ouside the box' and do something different, I'm usually happy with the results. The couple is thrilled with the whole session, and that's really what it's all about. You're welcome to check out more photos from the shoot on my blog, which is accessed from the splash page of my website. It's the only E session posted, as I just started the blog a few days ago.
I didn't really notice the bald spot til it was mentioned, and now it's all I can look at!
Kyle, where's the updated image?
Dieter, I really like what you've done, maybe with a bit less desaturation.

 6.
I'm taking my D300 to the olympics (as a spectator). I'm a wedding shooter and own the 17-55 2.8, 50 1.8, and the 85 1.8. I plan to rent another lens (fast longer zoom) for the week. I'm attending mostly speed skating events with lower level seating. Wondering which lens would be the best choice. Thanks in advance for any input.
