Thanks guys! The ugly background is just my bare wall! I can't decide which color/type of background to purchase (suggestions appreciated). The umbrella is 48" that comes with their beginner kit. I guess I need to move it closer, higher, and a bit more to the side? Anthony, your crop is nice. Thanks.

Ok. I'm having problems with the size thing! :-( Another try.

Sorry about that. Thanks.

I just receive my first lighting equipment (AB800). I've read posts, books,
until my eyes are red. Now it's time to practice. It all sounds good in the
books but putting the rubber on the road is a different story. So, please take
a look at one of my first attempts at lighting. I've solicited my family and
friends to practice on.
My goal is to operate a small home-based studio as well as offering in-home and
location services.
Your advice and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Marc thank you for this post! I joined photo.net to learn from the pros. I want to learn how to expand my creativity and produce captivating images. However, after reading hours of posts, some of the pros can be somewhat intimidating and sometimes rude. Many newbies are quickly criticized and some dismissed for even considering entering the field. (Thank goodness for the great responses from the true mentors and professionals.)
My primary purpose for subscribing is to be mentored by the vast knowledge of subscribers here (and at best, to find someone who I can shadow in DC).

Thanks for responding.

I'm looking to learn from an experienced wedding PJ in the Washington Metro
area. I seek experience and am eager to learn the business and shooting
techniques.
My schedule is pretty flexible and I'm willing to travel.
Currently I shot small events for family and friends. Ocassionally I will
informally shoot family weddings (as a guest and conscious of staying out of
the hired professional's way!).
I'm in the process of upgrading my equipment, but I prefer to concentrate on
upgrading my experience first. I shot with a Canon 30D.
Thanks for your consideration.

Primarily I use Av, keeping an eye on the exposure. If the lighting gets tricky or too dark, I'll switch to Tv or manual. I also use flash and exposure compensation.

I also like the rings (in color).

Great job! I love the colors and your camera tilt. Excellent use of your 2 hours.
