  1. <p>I am trying to get some recommendations as to what set up I should purchase. I started of with Elinchrom 400FX set (2 lights, umbrellas, softbox, etc.). After a little while, I realized I need a third light as more light is needed for the background, especially for high-key shots. My question is whether you would recommend me to get another 400FX set (with two lights) or one 1200FX with a huge sift box.<br>

I mainly shoot portraits (sometimes full body) with 1 to 4 people.<br>

    Thank you in advance.</p>

  2. Just printed both colour and b&w prints on my Epson 2100. Even

though colour prints were not ideal, b&w prints on Archival Matte

were impressive (may have to send colour prints out to some lab).

The problem I have is that I noticed severe banding on dark, hig

contrast b&w prints. In prints with lots of mid tones, there are no

bandings at all and details appear very well. When printing night

shots with sharp contrats created by city lights, there's banding.

Can someone help me out and solve this problem? Thanks

  3. Dear All,

Thank you for your input. I just figured out why I can print in colour but not in black and white. After calling Epson, they told me that they have not developed the proper driver for Mac OS using firewire connection for black and white printing; only colour for now. They tried to explain it to me but with my limited computer knowledge, I was having problems understanding the technical side. Anyway, they suggested me using the USB connection, which the driver supports for both black and white and colour priting, and it works! Very happy now.

Anyway, thank you all very much.

  4. Thank you all very much for your recommendations, however, I still have problems printing B&W (no problems with colour). Currently, I am using a Powerbook G4, 1G ram and Mac OSX. I tried everything you guys suggested, but it keeps on "processing" and suddenly, it stops. I will try to reinstall all my programs, both Photoshop CS and the Epson drivers.

Since I am new to Mac, can someone tell me whether there is a "application install/uninstall" feature similar to Windows' control panel? Otherwise, by simply deleting the PS CS folder, I may leave behind some files.

Also, can someone provide me with a page where I can find the latest Epson 2100 program, ICC profiles, drivers, etc?

Once again, I appreciate all your help.

  5. Dear All,

I recently bought myself an Epson 2100. I am surprised how long it

took me to get the thing setup; this printer may be good, but the

process of getting it setup is a turn off.

ANyway, I am having problems printing B&W images on my 2100. After

printing in colour with the Photo Black ink for colour images, I

change the Photo Black ink to Matte Black ink to print B&W on

Archival Matte. After I press print in Photoshop CS, the 2100

window opens and it reads "processing", just like when I print in

colour. However, after 30 seconds of "processing", the window will

suddenly say that the job is stopped. No matter what I do, I don't

seem to be able to print in B&W on my 2100 with Matte Ink. If I try

it too many times, both the 2100 program and CS will actually freeze.

Does anyone have the same problem as me, that your 2100 has no

problem printing in colours but just does not process for B&W

prints? I would appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    Calvin

  6. I noticed that when I take night shots or long exposures on my Nikon

D1x, there is a lot of noise. I understand that many cameras now in

the market have a noise reduction feature which helps eliminate as

much noise as possible. I don't believe D1x has this feature. Is

there a easy way to reduce (or possibly get rid) the amount of noise

when taking night shots or long exposures on my D1x? Thanks for

    your help.

  7. I just dug up my (relatively) old Nikon lense, 80-200 f2.8 AF/ED.

Just found out that it does not have a tripod mount on it. If I

simply place the camera on the tripod with this lense, I am afraid

it will bend the camera and/or lense mount. I checked with my shop

and they told me that Nikon does not make any "attachments" for old

models; only new 80-200 have the lense mount.

    Any suggestions? THanks

  8. I just bought my D1x with the microdrive. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but everytime I use the microdrive for 1 series of shots, I cannot use it agaai. The "CARD" and "C-REM" keeps flashing. The only way I can use the camera again with the micrdrive is to format the card. Am I doing something wrong or is this part of using the microdrive? If I use other memory cards (any suggestions), will this happen?
  9. Thank you very much for your input. By the way, do you know where I can find a copy of the D1x manual? I want to go through it before I pick my camera up.

Once again, thank you very much.

  10. I am trying to assmeble an extrmemly lightweight tripod set for my

Nikon D1x, so I can bring it along with me on my business trips

abroad. In the same time, I don;t want to take up too much space

nor do I want to carry something heavy. (I have been thinking of

using a table top tripod.) Can somone give me suggestions for the

smallest, lightest tripod, ballhead, and quick release that would

    suit my requirements?

    Thanks,

    Cal

  11. Dear All,

I have been using my F4s for some years now and have decided to

switch to digital, D1x. I will be picking up my camera this coming

Thursday, can someone give me some tips in what to look for before I

pay for it, since this will be my first time using a digital?

    Thanks,

    Cal

  12. BODY: I understand that this has been discussed many times and I have

looked through most of them. But I still cannot come to a solid

conclusion to which is the smallest P&S camera. Apart from size, the

quality is also important. Can someone tell me what are the cameras

out on the market that I should consider? At the moment, I am

looking at Elph Jr. but still not sure whether it is the best out

    there for this category.

    <p>

The second part of my question: since size (and quality) is what I am

looking for, should I look into digital P&S? If so, what are the

strong competitors on the market? At the moment, I am considering

Canon S100 or S20 (simply because of the 3.3megapixels); but after

surfing the net for a while, the amount of choices confused me

(Fujifilm, Olympus, etc.). Can someone recommend something for me?

    <p>

    Thank you all in advance.

    <p>

    Calvin
