D40x Sigma
in Nikon
Hello, I know there's several similar questions regarding the D40x's lens
compatability but I just wanted to fully ensure that this lens will auto focus
for me, unlike simliar lenses that require a manual focus on the D40x/D40
Sigma 30mm F/1.4 EX DC HSM

Thank you for your responses - I have used photoshop before to create these effects but i use a different method which may interest you...
Open your document and hit drag out the rectangular marque tool about 2-3cm from each edge of your photo (depending on size of intended vignette).
Press 'Shift+Q' to activate a quick mask then go to 'Blur > Gaussian Blur' and apply a pretty heavy blur. If you press the preview button you'll get an idea of where you're going with it. Hit OK.
Now disable the quick mask by pressing 'Shift+Q' again and invert its selection by pressing 'Ctrl+Shift+I'.
Make your foreground colour black and go to 'Edit>Fill>foreground colour'
Then fiddle with the opacity of the layer to get the desired effect.
Done!
I just find it looks more realistic this was as opposed to the feathering technique. Hope this helps, try it!

In certain cases I like the look of a severely vignetted image - does anyone
have a good tip on a Nikon lens that does this?
I have a D40x so it'd be useful if it was a AF-A lens but that's not vital.
Any help would be great, thanks!

I've only ever found jessops staff to be arrogant and useless. Been very disappointed with them on several occasions and now never use them. Grossly over priced and never have the correct stock.
The web site is even more of a joke in that they can't seem to match their own web site or sync the stock information displayed on the website with the stores.
Nikon D40x Battery Cover Removal for Battery Grip
in Nikon

just got to say thanks for the advice too, i really thought i would have to actually break the thing off if i couldn't find a better way!
thank you!
(also, apparently the removed battery door will fit into the grip sideways but i didn't try this. From memory there is actually a little pocket thing for it where the battery goes into the camera's body)
