1.
This has gotten way off topic, whatever happen to just being nice to people? Robert you need to keep asking higher up people at Getty until you get the answer you want. There is certainly nothing unreasonable about wanting an appreciated photo of your family, in fact it is a flattering request. You just havent had the question land in the right ear yet, keep asking and good luck.

  2.
Did you check with the hospital administration, often they have a couple approved pros which are allowed in the or and rehearsed on the do's and dont's in the room. I would have been useless as the shooter (i'm the dad) and preferred my role as side kick/ hero support. Congrats and good luck

  3.
Just tell her you need to ask your parents for permission first, just kidding, like others said, as in any business these people and their subsequent referrals are paying the rent, you are a photographer, end of story, she wants you to take the picture because she feels it will be better than hers (respect shown). btw i expect most of us are envious of your youthful inconvienience. ;-)

  4.
Often i see well lit subjects against a deep pure black background, is there a trick to this or is it pains taking tracing and cutting and pasteing. i always assumed it was the latter but some that i see are so detailed at the edges it seems nearly impossible. thanks Wally

  5.
hi diane: i used olympus for a few years and only have one peave with them, they autofocus terribly in dim light, cant speak on the d5000, but if available light shooting is important to you, you may want to closely scrutinize the olympus. btw the two oly kit lenses work quite well in bright light.
6.
I am very sorry about your situation Angel, my first instinct was protect your name at all costs, give the clients all of their money back and apologize sincerely, but after a moment to ponder it, if you did that, even if many pics were workable by a talented photoshopper telling the client that they are rubbish only serves to diminish their happiness, as wrong as it may sound at first, I think you actually owe it to the clients to try the utmost to see if they think that their package is satisfactory, because once you tell them otherwise, no effort on your part will make those photos look good as the seed will have been planted in their minds already.

  7. ok, that clarifies it, they probably would accept foam board as its a pretty casual contest, tons of categories, 50cents to enter and a $4 first prize, obviously its about fun and ribbons, so basically i need to go to staples and find something that will support and flatter the pictures(color wise) and cut it to 1" border around the picture. Thanks for the replies.
  8. Hi all, I am entering a local photo contest at a local fair type setting, the

online instructions say to submit the photo on "card stock" with a 1" matte, and

to not use frames as they may get damaged from handling. I know this sounds like

a silly question but what exactly is "card stock"? thanks

  9. hi, i'm shooting with a e-500 and just got home from motocross to realize i was

shooting in hq, bad bad bad. i want best quality, what i'm womdering is why

are tif's so big, 24 megs while orf is only around 13 meg, when the camera is

only an 8meg. i've been having an amazingly difficult time finding a simple orf

viewer-- converter, tried infranview and psp, no dice. any way to trim down the

    size of the tif?
