  1. Agree on all points. Here's the killer. I went into a local camera store earlier today and asked to take a look at the Sony a6500. The store did not carry the Canon M5.

I asked the sales person where the AV and TV shooting mode options were located on the a6500, as I didn't see them. She couldn't find them....she was going thru the menus. I've read one big draw back is the poor user interface, which I experienced with a Sony point and shoot some time ago. Not a great sign to me. I'll check out the user guide.

  2. I use the Canon M5 mirrorless but primarily with older Canon lens, I really enjoy it. There's also a newer M6

You should go to a store and check them both out (as well as Fuji, Olympus, etc.)

I wasn't aware of the M6 until I saw it on Canon's site this past week. Not sure I can deal with the lack of an electronic viewfinder. Good to know you like your Canon M5.

  3. I currently use a Canon EOS 40D. Main issue is weight of camera and lenses. I've tried camera cross-shoulder bags and backpacks. More weight than I'd like...neck issues too. Second issue is low top ISO, so I'm too limited in capturing quality low light images. I don't like shooting with a flash.

I travel regularly and need to be able to shoot close-ups, portraits, street scenes, landscapes, moving animals...just about anything and everything. I've found it impossible to have a single lens take care of all my needs. So I believe I will be investing in 2 lenses as well.

Any thoughts on Canon EOS M5 vs. Sony Alpha a 6500? Both address my two current issues, but may well create new ones.

  4. I'm traveling to India, Bhutan and Nepal in March. I just purchased my first SLR - a Canon EOS 40D with a Canon EF-S 17-85mm lens. Would someone be kind enough to recommend a second lens that will

enable me to take closeups of people from 20 to 30 feet away?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

  5. Looking for companies that produce high quality notecards from digital photographs - single prints of

    single images.

For example, would like to offer client a set of 24 notecards, each using a different image vs. offering 24

    notecards of the same image.

Kodak Gallery's quality is just ok, not great - inconsistent. Have had to send orders back 3 times to get it

    to hit my quality standard.

There are companies that offer high quality notecards, but the ones I have find, only seem to offer

multiple prints of the same image. I need 1 card from each image.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Courtney

  6. Any quick advice on how to best prepare images for online viewing?

I bought showitweb so I could produce professional looking, customizable slide shows that can be

uploaded to a web site. Other than wishing it was full screen, I think it's a great tool.

However, my images look a little flat vs what I see on my monitor, or in print. They lost some punch.

Obviously, there is some tidbit of knowledge I am lacking in this department!

Any kind soul want to give me some advice?

    Thank you.

  7. Hi Trent,

Thx. I am a fanatic about quality. Wld love to show my client his/her slideshow on my

laptop, but need to be able to provide them with a vehicle to look at his/her slideshow on

his/her own. Am open to whatever vehicle provides that quality.

For slideshows that clients can access, I bought showitweb software which gives me the

ability to zoom and pan randomly - a requirement me like iPhoto - but am disappointed in

the translation to web color...images lose some punch. Other than that, it seems have a

lot of customization, is easy to figure out and has a simple, clean, professional look.

Am somewhat new at this and need to understand what I have to do on my end to prepare

images for web. I'll post a question on that.

    Thx again for your suggestions.

  8. Thx Robert...I added a few deliverables to my list after reading thru your link.

You are so right...many can do it...few are really good...applies to so many things!

Like everything in life, there are pros and cons involved, no matter what web site design I

end up with...compromises will no doubt be made. I just need to be very clear on what is

a "need to have" vs. a "nice to have" and what my priorities are.

Thanks for making me thing harder. It will result in a better site.

  9. Ryan...re no possible high quality DVD...I guess so. I am dumbfounded in this day and

age. Thx for reconfirming what I had heard from others.

Todd...Asuka looks amazing. That's the high end quality I was looking for. Thx. Re slide

    show, someone recommended www/showitfast.com.

Jim and Jefferson...re Ken Burns, perhaps I am unclear...I wld like to see the same random

movement of the image, in addition to the transition, that I see in iPhoto slideshow. When

I use the share menu to send from iPhoto to IDVD, I do not get the movement...only the

transition. The movement is key to the impact, in my opinion. Would either of you be

able to confirm that you get the random movement in your DVD's?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions...I will check them out!

  10. Looking for recommendations for top quality coffee table book that allows for maximum flexibility wrt

layout - photo size, # of photos on page, placement of photos on page etc.

I have seen WHCC and DigiLab mentioned. Any isues with either? Any others I shld consider?

Also looking for referrals on turning iPhoto slideshows (would like to keep Ken Burns effect) with music

into DVD. I am not satisfied with the resolution when burning myself...also cannot keep the Ken Burns

effect using iDVD (seems like a ridiculous technical limitation). Surely there is a way to produce a high

quality DVD of an iPhoto slide show. Any suggestions?
