  1. I use for 580 as fill flash fro HS Senior photography. For more accurate flash results with 580

and 580II flashes, set your cameras metering mode to "SPOT METER", rough in composition

and focal length then set focus lock on subjects face (between eyes or lower forehead),

reposition frame as desired and shoot. This has given me WAY more accurate and consistent

flash results. I set camera ev at -2/3 and set flash exposure compensation at desired level, I

usually set at +1/3 0r + 2/3, perfect exposure most every time. Send me an e-mail and I'll

send you a PDF of my 580 flash rig. jcottone@starband.net

  2. Mark, First off the Canon cleaning system is not intended to be an end all solution to keeping

your sensor, but rather to assist in helping to keep it clean between cleanings. I've been

cleaning sensors for about 8 years now and the best method I've found is to use the dry

brush method first. http://www.visibledust.com/ If the dry brush method does'nt work then

resort to the wet sensor cleaning method. Check out the video on the website mentioned

above. No need to go to the camera store, you have better options online. Stay clean!<div>00NqA8-40687784.jpg.84213ca3c8347eab126c416f8f429452.jpg</div>

  3. Black Market, there's no such thing -but there is "grey market" which is nothing more than packaing geared for sale outside the US. Did you get it at a fair price? If so you're probably ok. Next time as a rule of thumb, always get the return policy in writing. Deal with reputable dealers such as Adorama, B&H Photo, Beech camera, Porters, Sammy's Camera Etc. If you're not in a hurry buy online,(out of state), you'll avoid sales tax. Rest assured your recent purchase is ok, next time don't be in a hurry. Do a little online research and make it a fun purchase.
  4. I use the St-e2 professionally in an outdoor portrait studio inviroment. I photograph 5 HS seniors a day. I use the NIMH 2cr5 from http://thomasdistributing.com It needs a charge once every 20 sessions. Look at it his way purchase three 2cr5 lithiums or get a rechargeable that will last 100x the life for the same cost. If you do order from Thomas distributing do not order the model off the website. It does not supply the proper voltage. Call them and explain you need the 2cr5 that plugs directly in the wall and has a white battery with graphics. This one supplies the proper output but is not on the website. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you a PDF of my St-e2 outdoor setup. It works perfectly! jcottone@starband.net
  5. Hi Andy, Great so you're thinking of becoming a photographer, I started just as you're doing right out of High School. I would reccomend joining your state's professional photography society. For example I'm in NY so My State's organization is called the "Professional Photographers Society of New York" or PPSNY every state has one and they are all affiliated with "Professional Photographers of America" OR PPA. The yearly dues are usually less than $200 and a group of local Photographers meets once a month to discuss everything from portrait lighting to business management. You don't necessesarily need to go to college as a portrait photographer, I never did anything more than 2 yr degree at our local community college and I'm doing quite well, thank God!. As far as exuipment goes keep it simple at first. There are some Norman 808 Packs available on Ebay right now, I bought 7 of them. They are just $75 each and their MINT! Feel free to e-mail me directly with questions... Your friend, jcottone@starband.net
  6. I use the new 580EX III with the St-E2 professionally doing portrait work outdoor the studio. I have a PDF file I can send you which depicts my off camera setup send me an e-mail and I'll forward you the PDF jcottone@starband.net -One thing to be aware of when using the st-e2 outdoors is that the strobe unit does not like sunlight hitting the red sensor area on the flash. If this occurs it may inhibit receiving the signal from the transmitter.
  7. The SRAw feature was added by request from some top wedding photographers that use, test and advise Canon regarding their equipment. These guys asked for a "smaller Raw file" for use during reception coverage. Reception coverage does not require large file sizes. Album pages consist of many smaller images on each page. The SRaw format gives them more margin for correcting exposure error etc.
  8. I use the 70-210 f4, very happy with results supesharp, I shoot in the studio at 5.6. Narrow depth of field yet sharp subject, just try to keep subjects faces on the same plane. I agree thr $600 price is much easier to swallow for 1 stop of light! The lens is much lighter and easier to carry arround too.
