1.
Mark,

Duly noted. Weight-wise, I'm sure I'll be fine. I found your comments in regards to saving for the 17-55 mm lens pretty ironic, in that I own the 17-55mm and though a sweet lens as well, I find myself wanting more focal length on the telephoto side while shooting with it.

Consequently, I started saving for the 24-70mm as well. :-)

Thanks for your comments!

Cheers,

 2.
Nadine, thanks for your response.

i certainly agree with your train of thought pertaining to the use of flash in so far as not using flash to the point of alienating/irritating folks and negatively affecting the proceedings. I'm not well versed in the shutter drag technique just yet, but intend to become competent in using it to my advantage. I certainly haven't in the past.

Also, what ISO levels do you consider to be medium/high?

Regards,

 3.
William,
Here are the answers to your questions below:

Firstly confirm flash is not an issue. Flash is NOT an issue

Then:
1. Can you use Flash at your discretion throughout the whole Ceremony?
Yes

2. Can you Place off camera Flash anywhere?
Not sure at this time. Will know at a future date.

3. Do you have an assistant?
Nope. Just me.

4. Are you allowed to roam during the Ceremony - unlimited?
Yes.

5. Do you have remote triggers?
Will be using Nikon i-TTL wireless system. SB-800 speedlight on camera flash bracket will be used to control a 2nd off-camera SB-800.

6. Do you have any Flash Modifiers - if so what?
Demb Jumbo Flip-it & Diffuser.

7. Do you have Flash Stands or spare Tripods to suit as stands.
A couple of flash stands & 1 gitzo tripod for the formals.

 4.
William,

Thanks for the link. Lots of good stuff & information in there. Your post and the thread as a whole were a pretty good read.

So, let me pose a question back you and Nadine:

Assuming the use of flash is not an issue, how does this affect the suggestion you both have made in this and the link William referenced in his last post, if at all?

Regards,

 5.
Mark:
Yes, I understand that there are no "magic school bus" settings that one can input into a camera body and expect to achieve optimum exposure quality for each shutter click. I'm seeking advice, unforeseen gotchas, and war stories of folks who have used this specific combo of lens and camera in a low light situation. Thanks for your comments.

Nadine:
Thanks very much for your post. Those are exactly the kind of parameters I was looking for. Fortunately, I have ample time to case the church before the wedding and take some test shots. Just to be clear, were you implying that you wouldn't shoot the processional/recessional part with this particular combo solely because of motion blur? What would you suggest one uses in that situation?

Pertaining to the ISO, the highest I've ever had to push ISO on my D300 since purchasing it (previously owned a D80) is 1000. I was shooting wide open with the Nikon 17 -55 f/2.8 at the time in a low-light situation. When I can afford to in the future, I'll step up to a D700 with its superior noise control capabilities. Thanks again.

Lee:
Yes, I have enough time to indeed take some test shots at the church where the wedding will hold. Thanks for your feedback. As I said earlier, used to own a D80. I also own the 70-200 f/2.8 you mentioned, and it's my go-to portrait lens. Absolutely love it. Plus with VR, racked out all the way to 200mm, it's simply a joy to use. Take it easy.

 6.
Hello, fellow PNers.

I would appreciate hearing from owners of, as well as experienced photographers, who've used the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens on a Nikon D300. I own a D300 and a couple of SB-800 speedlights, and rented the lens a month ago for a test studio/outdoor shoot, and was completely blown away by the color rendition and quality of the images. I've since ordered the lens from B&H, and it arrives today (Yeee-hhhaaah!........ahem).

Assuming use of the aformentioned lens on the same body (D300) for an indoor/low-light church wedding, please share what you consider to be the optimum camera settings for getting the best out of the combination, in terms of ISO, aperture, and any other exposure settings.

Appreciate the knowledge.

Cheers,
-Ade

 8.
Hiya, fellow PNers,

I would appreciate hearing from recent & older members of the WPJA & AGWPJA associations, as to how long the typical time-frame for a response as to whether one is "worthy" to join either association is.

I understand that the AGWPJA won't contact you if one is not up to snuff per their criteria (I'm assuming the same with the WPJA, but please coorect moi if that is not the case), which is cool, but I was curious to hear what the experiences of recent and older members were, pertaining to how long it took before they heard back from both associations.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers,
