1.
I remember emailing with a guy in Lake Tahoe years ago. He had some huge pinhole camera like your 20X24 idea. It was a one shot camera. He would load the thing at home and drive it out to location - the best part was that he used ski poles to determine the angle of view! I love that! Ski Poles for Criminy - HILARIOUS!

 2.
Hey Ray, I think I may actually have the third version. It's such a dud I kinda hate to spend any money on it. Maybe I'll send it to the guy I recommended to you. See what he can figure out.
I had a second version that was phenomenal. I let it go on a trip to Mexico (on a M2) with a girl friend. The M2 finally came back about two years ago --- 17 years after the Mexico trip --- she still has the 35 --- can't blame her, great lens --- GIRLS!
Are you shooting digital yet?

 3.
When I dropped my 21 3.4 onto a steel I beam a few months ago I needed a quick turn-around on the removal of the broken filter. I found this local guy who came highly recommended by some other Leica users in the area:

Isolda Camera and Instrument, Bridgewater, CT - 860 350 5357

He not only removed the broken filter but calibrated and tightened up my old 21 and replaced the missing alignment pin for the hood - all for about $125 (if I remember correctly), and a rush job at that.
He was also able to explain a recurring focus problem on my M6 that Leica couldn't fix with two visits. Haven't done that repair yet, but I'll be taking it to him when I do.

Anyway, could be worth a call

 4.
Anyone using this combo? Any thoughts?

I'm thinking about joining the digital M revolution and this possibility is crossing my path at a reasonable but not fantastic price.

I have a 35 Summicron but it's never been a stellar performer although it's supposedly the 'most desirable model . . .'

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks, Dennis

 5.
Nice shots on that rock thing Andy!

You know, I never saw any of my M's get wet on the inside of the base plate, nor wet film, and I really abused them when it came to rain... electrics certainly are a different matter however.

 6.
Seems to me that $1K is too much. Check some other sources for comparison. But when you can get something much more recent for less, I'd think about that. Also, for a thousand bucks you should be able to go into the shop and make some test shots with the lens.

I tested a 35 summilux years ago, made a picture of my wife, one of the sharpest nicest images I have of her, wide open. Now why didn't I buy that lens?

I have the 50 Summicron DR from '58. It's such an amazing lens, and the tooling of it is absolutely delightful.

 7.
Thanks for the JPEG Philip, looks great. Nice neighborhood!

I get fringing on my D700 and find that LR2 does a pretty weak job in fixing it. Does this M9 fringing respond any better?

Well, what do you think Ray? Is there an M9 in your future?

Seven thousand dollars... boy that's a big number for a camera, a rangefinder camera. Keep thinking about it all day long... even while fishing this morning, sheesh, got the money, not sure I could pull the trigger. Plus I'd need a new 50. My old DR apparently won't work. At least it sounds like my old 21 3.4 will. That's good news.

 8.
Meant to mention in the last post that six inches to the right would have dropped that beautiful 21 through this crack and not onto the I-beam it so thankfully landed on. Too bad it was an original vintage chrome filter... I did keep the broken filter for 'special effects.' The good news is that this fall meant a trip to the shop, calibration and replacement of the missing registration pin for the lens shade. Happy again.

00UTbj-172267584.jpg.f0cff8e37621e08bbc4d8655cca9a3fd.jpg

 9.
Very exciting Philip, any samples? Would love to hear about some higher ISO ratings. Seems that most people are shooting their Leica digitals at 160 an awful lot of the time. I'm kind of an ISO 400 guy. I'm hoping to use an M9 alongside my D700 as well. Would love to hear and see more thoughts and comparisons.
Congrats, D
