1.
Well, I sent her back in to Nikon and they did some messing. I got it back ten days later and it did it again just after a wedding ceremony (luckily it wasn't during). This time I pulled the grip, switched batteries in the body -- no go. Then I switched to the AA pack in the grip -- no go. Checked the batteries (using my d300s and said they were all 93% or above and either new or a one on the age scale).
I couldn't get the body to restart until I put a battery on the charger for 5 minutes. Very strange -- I sent to body back to Nikon again. Lets see if they get it fixed this time.

 2.
I called Nikon, they think I have an issue with the electronics in the D700. It won't run on the battery in the grip (even though it sees it in the menus). Running it on the D300s just confirmed that it wasn't the grip or battery that has a problem. Who knows, maybe that is why my colors have changed as well?

 3.
Okay, so I updated my firmware last week to the new version v1.02. Wow, what a difference!
A major part of the update was a white balance tweak. I definitely notice a more Canon-esque feel to my images now. The very warm (yellowy) Nikon are gone for a more neutral feel at all white balance settings. I'm not sure I like the new colors yet. It sure threw off my night settings that I know and love on my first night wedding I shot last week. All of my custom settings that I'd developed for different locations at work are completely different. It's going to take me some time to figure out where my kelvin settings need to be.

Now, I did have the D700 shut down yesterday during a shoot (and not restart). No juice at all, even though I was only 150 shots in with a freshly charged ENEL4a battery in the grip (which worked fine when I switched it over to the D300s). Anyone know if there are any battery or grip issues with the new firmware update. Once I charged the battery in the body -- it seemed to work fine again. It has me a bit worried (I really don't want it to die during a wedding ceremony). The body sees the grip and battery but doesn't seem to use it.

thanks,
