One more vote for the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. These days, it stays attached to my 50D, despite the fact the I have the 17-55 and the 10-22.

I upgraded from a Rebel XT to a 50D (purchased new) last Christmas and I have no regrets. My 50D just recently had an electronics problem, and is currently being repaired by Canon (under warrantee), so I've had to resort to using my old Rebel XT for the past 2 weeks. Between the brighter/bigger viewfinder + LCD, better AF/low-light/ISO/metering, I cannot freaking wait until I get my 50D back (which should be arriving tomorrow!).
I'm sure the 40D is great too, but don't believe all the 50D haters--its a wonderful camera and you will be extremely happy upgrading from the XT.

Since my son was born in January, my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 has rarely left my 50D. For context, I also own the 50 1.8, 17-55, 100 Macro, and 10-22. The 30 is a wonderful focal length for indoor pics on a crop camera, at least for me. I've taken about a million pictures of him with it and I've gotten loads of great shots.

I purchased an inexpensive third party wireless shutter remote from a seller from Hong Kong on ebay like this one:
It works well, although I experienced some minor drama with the seller--the first one I got didnt work, so I had to send it back for a replacement. The second one I got had a smashed transmitter. He finally sent me out a replacement transmitter and now I'm in business. Ended up taking me about 3 months to finally get a working product.

If you are loyal to Canon, they have recently announced their own waterproof/shockproof camera: the Powershot D10

The little switch on the remote has three settings: 2 sec delay, no delay, and off. Move the switch to the middle.

Cheers

Totally want one of these, but all vendors selling them seem to be price gouging big time. Hopefully in a few months they'll be reasonable.
It also seems (from browsing ebay) that there are black box 'fakes' out there that are crappier quality.
