I think this photo has great atmosphere. If I were to make a suggestion it would be to try a vertical crop to this photo. If you like it as is, I would clone out that bright ?stick? about 1/3 up the left side of the photo. I think it really pulls your eye away from the beautiful story of the image. Great shot! Here's a vertical crop for another idea. -Brenden

  1. I like your composition here and the lighting that is falling over the image. I think it would look better in black and white with some stark contrast. Here's a quick adjustment that I did with some extra curves, b&w, and some dodging and burning. I would take more time with your full scale image, but this is to merely to give you another idea. -Brenden

Comments/critiques welcomed and appreciated. I haven't seen the

Dragan technique applied to wildlife, so I thought I'd give it a shot!

Beautiful shot. I think the black and white works really well here. Excellent composition and the shadows on the ground add some life. Nice job!
  2. Great image! What was your exposure time? My only nitpicky critique would be to try to clean up the halo on the large bolt of lightning, I think it would make the image slightly stronger. But really a small point. Great capture!
  3. While walking through a nature preserve, I found this flower and since

I didn't have my tripod with me, I hand-held this macro. I like the

gritty texture to the flower and wondered what the patrons of PN

think? C/C greatly appreciated and welcomed.

Here's a version on what I might have done, just to give you another perspective and another idea. I've cropped, level adjusted, curve adjusted, and used the high pass filter for sharpening. -Brenden

I like to color of the water against the ducks, but there is something missing from the shot to really draw me in. I'm not 100% sure what it is though... maybe a different angle (say moving to your left to include the mother duck as well or perhaps moving your top crop to not cut off the top of her back?) Anyway just some thoughts!
