When I realized that i could not take my day job anymore :)
you should look at couple things. first try to get all the loans you need (home, car etc) before you leave. second, think realistically about yoru savings and how much you will get from your business in the short term.
When I left my job couple months ago, I had paid all my debt. Think about that.

Is there anyone who does IR conversion of these cameras other than
IRDigital.net? Or have you seen schematics that explain the
procedure?

Image sharpness is only one part of the equation. Speed is way more important to me than being able to do 60x90 images ;)

I have the Sigma 15-30mm. Great lens. It is a zoom of course.
The Sigma 20mm is a very good lens as well. Many people do use it and are very happy with it.

I have only one price and I list it. It cuts down on the number of price shoppers. However, if I had more free time, I would stop listing it or give a range so I can try to wow them when they come in. I book 80% of clients that come to meet with me since they are qualified.
I am redesigning my website and Matthew's advice here is interesting.

There is no magic - there are many ways to do this - very fast lens, high ISO and available light, or add some more flash, or drag you shutter...
There are some dance photos here:

I usually drag the shutter and use flash, most of the time available light is not strong enough.

Lots of blurs and dodging and burning.

Split toning - played around with curves. Again, lots of dodge and burn

You need to set it for high speed synch. It seems like the flash didnt fire.

Eric, I thoght about that. However, with the price of a D30, it would be at least 2x what I ideally like to pay.

I am thinking of buying a camera (less than $600 would be best) for
infrared shots. I have a NIkon Coolpix 950 that does a decent job but
the resolution and noise leaves a lot to be desired. Something
4megapixels or better would be great.
I am considering two scenarios:
a) a camera that is sensitive to infrared out of the box
b) or open a camera and replace the IR blocking filter with an IR
filter.
Which cameras would you recommend? What shutter speeds are you
getting, say at 100 or 200 ISO?
Thanks!

Why don't we answer the question instead of going on a tangent?
Just shoot like you would normally.

Art Leather has very bad reputation for customer service -they have good products but have terrible customer service from what I experienced and heard.
I recommend Zookbinders as a mid level. White Glove is ok, I like Graphistudio and SoHo from Reneissance.

Gorgeous photos and great restoration. I hope my wedding photos will be cherished from 50 years on. That is my biggest desire.

if possible, stay away from paper proofs. They will scan it and yoru reprint sales will be lower. Try a digital based proofing.

I shoot all RAW and have about 12GB storage now. If you get a storage drive, use it as a backup, not to reuse cards. Do not erase anything till you copied them to your harddrive and burned DVD's.

My Elan IIe focuses WAY better then D60.... Now, it uses the red assist light but ....

Sigma Super 500 works with D30.

I used this lens for most of the work I do. It is quite sharp, built
like a tank. I am not so sure about the sharpness cocnerns at all. I
have a 70-200 4L and can't really see too much difference.

Hi folks,

I am getting a Vivitar 100mm macro for EOS mount. I have heard reports that it is flimsy but haven't heard anybody's lens broken yet! Also any suggestions where I can get thsi cheap? People mention $119 but cheapest I found is $149. Finally, I heard somebody suggested the manual focus version of this over the AF. Any thoughts on this?
thanks.

With all due respect to Isaac, I think that Sigma had some troubles at first but they seemed to straightened it lately. I heard very good things abou ttheswe lenses, and from the one I used, I was happy. I used Tokina lenses and have been very happy with them. The latest Sigma's, Tokina's and Tamron's are pretty good. It took them a while but they caught up. I do not mean to turn this into a flame war or anything, I just didn't like it when people who never used them talked about it as if they have experience.

Isn;t there a Tamron 20-40 that is pretty well regarded?
-
I do not understand why many many Canon owners look down on third party products? Brand loyalty? Trying to justify the big $$$ spent? Most of these comments come from Canon-exclusive users who never used a Sigma or Tamron or Tokina... THe pro versions of these lenses are quite good. I own two Tokina's and two Canon's and all of them work great with my Elan IIe.

This coming froma Turkish guy :-)
I found that some places in Istanbul you can find used equipment at reasonable prices. I was looking at some used lenses in Izmir, and the prices were same as US. I am sure you can also rent some gear if you talk to them beforehand. Turkey is not as bad as you might think, and thanks to a stupid government, dollar is king. Negotiate nicely (do not try ot rip off anyone ;-) ). There are some good photo stores. Go to Sirkeci/Karakoy, lots of second hand places are around along with new stuff, and Dogubank Ishani at Eminonu (this is where a lot of imported electronic stuff comes out). Beware, what you buy might not have insurance at all! But that is how gray market is there.

Do not waste your money on the non-IS. Either get the 80-200 2.8L (the older lens) and save money or get the IS.

The thing is that IS lens is very sharp. Do you need the absolute sharpest lens? Gradual increases in sharpness is nowhere as important as being able to get a shot at 1/40th of a second at 200mm.

Indoors I avoid using flash whenever i can.

160mm 1/50th, f2.8.
