  1. I just bought one of these; they are widely availble below $400 now, and I thought the positives (fast lens, litle shatter lag) outweighed the negatives (noise at 400, alleged posterization). This camera seems more "photographic" than any other digicam I've used (and I've used a lot). The images it produces have the tonal range, depth of field, contrast, even the "fussiness" that I'm used to getting with film cameras. The images do not have that flat camcorder look that my sony digicams produce. The complaints about this camera mostly have to do with how its images look on a monitor. The camera was designed to produce good photo prints; you can manipulate the jpg's to look good on your screen through judicious use of your photo editor.

     

    I have always thought that a good photographic tool, like a good stereo system, is less forgiving to the user. You have to work with this camera and it will give you some very nice results.
